Yes, it's called "new math".
Comment by Schussing56 on Jan 31, 2023 7:19am
Well, the rising interest rates environment is supposed to, theoretically, cause people not to spend as much money because they can make a lot of money by investing. Hence, prices are supposed to come down but, I'm not sure how much of an effect it will have on necessities such as heating propane. I don't know why the sudden drop in SPB's share price? Following the general market maybe ...more

Does anyone know the reason in drop of price?
Comment by sergio2go on Jan 31, 2023 11:07am
The mild weather must be the reason of the sp decline.
Comment by newcoin on Jan 31, 2023 11:12am
No idea? Q4 and Q1 are usually very good. February 17th for Q4 results.
Comment by ol_griz on Jan 31, 2023 11:21am
Possibly, though cold weather never seems to be a factor to the upside.  Maddeningly.
Comment by sergio2go on Jan 31, 2023 12:09pm
At least, Brookfield his still around...no selfoff from there part. Must be a good thing.
Comment by bttmfischer on Jan 31, 2023 1:32pm
Marquard & Bahls still have their huge number of shares as well.

could  be  that  those  holding  the stock in the private company they are merging with  are  shorting  stock   anticipating  the merger.  They   can  hedge   themselves   now  and   beat  other  similar shareholders  to   the   EXIT  DOOR.  ...more

I don't understand the play? Would you explain? Even though I don't understand it, it sounds like the best explanation yet. LOL!

Superior Plus Corp: Canaccord Genuity cuts target price to C$12 from C$13, citing significant impact on the company’s propane demand due to warmer weather conditions across North America.
Comment by sergio2go on Feb 01, 2023 9:04am
This is what i suspected. Although, SPB remains a great long term investment and it seems that there is no divident cut expected. It's fine by me.
Comment by newcoin on Feb 01, 2023 9:47am
There's more to it than one analyst downgrade. This is really wierd? WTF??
Comment by Baystboy07 on Feb 01, 2023 9:53am
Deal is supposed to close at Q1...there was a ton of stock issued at $10.25 as part of the deal...deal has either closed or firmed up to the point where it is virtually certain it will close...I think it is sellers from the new acquisition shares GLTA
Comment by newcoin on Feb 01, 2023 9:57am
That makes perfect sense. They can sell it down to $10.25 and then cover.
Comment by bttmfischer on Feb 01, 2023 10:08am
This was the first large block sold in the am, for quite some time. It had to be an institutional disposal. The question is what made them do it? There was no insider selling that I was aware of, so this is a mystery.

Thanks, penny, for laying out the possible options here. This caught investors by surprise. It will be over soon. Likely a great chance to buy?

The company PRs clearly state that Desjardins will be staying on BOD until July 31 2023 so your hypothesis doesn't fit the facts. What is more likely is that the Certarus deal involves the distribution of $500 million in shares priced at 10.25 for a deal expected to close in the first Q of 2023.  Given that the price today closed at 10.25, it is more likely that this deal has in fact ...more

Interesting theory Experienced, and it is possible. The future will unfold, and we shall find out the real reason. Maybe.
Comment by Baystboy07 on Feb 01, 2023 10:10am
They can go lower...remember $10.25 is the buyout price...but reality is the cost base of their shares in the selling company is probably much lower.
Comment by pjn0987654321 on Feb 01, 2023 10:11am
That's what it was.  Canaccord downgrade coming, and the ones who knew it was coming sold before the announcement.  Canaccord still has a surprising amount of influence for just another analysis company.
Comment by pennydredful on Feb 01, 2023 10:39am
Based  on personal  experience  ,  I  would recommend  no one have an account  with Canaccord.
Comment by bttmfischer on Feb 01, 2023 11:01am
Wilan Inc (which crashed and burnt almost a decade ago) was heavily involved with Canaccord. At that time there were some rumours about the two. So, I woulg not trust those for a nanosecond.

Same strategy that penny was talking about. Different wording?
