Just a heads up... If you want to buy an EV

Just a heads up... If you want to buy an EV and charge it at home, get one now and you will be grandfathered for a home charging station. Most if not all Suburbia Electrical systems can only handle 10 to 20% of the residents owning and charging EVs. You will either have to update the residential Electrical systems to handle the extra amperage (400 as opposed to 100amp service) or go to a local charging station and wait in line.

Basically the lines in your neighborhood will have to be replaced with cross sectional diameters of 2 to 4 times their wire size now if everyone wants to charge their EV at home.

Canada will now have to rewire their Residential Electrical Systems across the country by 2035. Natural gas will be needed to generate the added electrical demand as well as updating Hydro and Nuclear generation to meet Canada's National Carbon Pricing rollout.

Canada is the most progressive country in the world right now.

Happy Canada Day!

Sorry for the Reality slap... but it's called Physics.

I'm no physicist but I tend to think HFC EVs could be the easier option for Canada. On a related note, isn't it interesting that technical EV charging provisions were removed from Ontario's building code in 2019? https://www.ontario.ca/page/building-code-updates

LOL yeah maybe. Either way, I agree with you, I don't see everyone converting to EVs even by 2035, BEVs in particular. By then, BEVs may very well be considered old-fashioned.

If you are forced to buy an EV, then the best way to avoid a big bill for converting your electical system would be to change your electrical appliances for gas appliances. That way you wont have to wait for the wind to start blowing again in order to cook a meal !!

Yeah the natural gas they'll need to generate Electricity to charge all the EVs everyone will own by 2035? That natural gas?lol
Comment by Oldnagger on Jul 01, 2021 1:03pm
Nat gas is the future !!! Suncor should really use their excess cash flow to get more involved.

I think I misunderstood your question. To be clear, Suncor seems to be going after Hydrogen as a fuel. Canada has a hydrogen strategy and I haven't read it in detail yet but it does mention ammonia a few times, in the context that hydrogen is used as feedstock to create ammonia. I imagine that if Suncor becomes a major producer of hydrogen they don't necessarily have to produce the ammonia ...more
