Big Turnaround in DOW Futures - Why?

Another wrinkle in the ongoing saga.

The Ukrainian President contacted Putin to suggest a meeting with the Russian to discuss possible Ukrainian neutrality.  Putin agreed and a meeting is being arranged in Minsk, the Belarus capital city.

The futures market is reflecting optimism that some sort of agreement might happen to end the conflict.

Will this meeting (if it actually happens) result in a negotiated settlement?

Who knows but it adds to the day to day volatility of the sitaution and the market reaction.

Lamb going to slaughter. I would put Putin and Trudeau at the same benchmark on the scale of believability. Putin already has what he wants within his grasp in the Ukraine.  What does Putin have to gain other than pisssing off the world.  Oh, its already too late for that but it doesn't really matter as Russia and China are now best friends.  I don't think Russia will ...more

You lost me at Putin and Trudeau being the same.   You are completely daft.

Trudeau is a world wide laughingstock.  Putin is a warrior.  Trudeau is a coward. I could go on and on but it would serve no purpose. Putin made it clear 3 months ago what was going to happen.  In the interim, he has made huge deals on oil and gas and food with China in preparation.  Putin must be laughing at Europe and the USA now as the jig is up.  Europe just has to ...more

Warren Buffett used to say, "Never bet against America."  We'll have to wait and see what happens after the mid terms this year.

i say JT is worst. JT work for the globalists. Putin is a commie but at least he has principle and had kept his side of the Minsk Agreement signed in 2015.  It was the west backed militia that kept attacking the pro-russia east side of Ukraine since 2015. Putin had to step in to support the ukraine separatists. The corrupt obama and biden administration have fostered crony capitalism in ...more

UKR's President Zelensky was prodded by the West and internally to reject neutrality as an option. And what did he get for that from the West? Nada. Zero support that actually counts. Almost certainly lost his job. Maybe his life. And maybe his country too. UKR could have had peace and trade relations not only with the West but Russai as well in return for agreeing not to join NATO and ...more

Agree I posted many times before as Russia was massing troops on the border of The Ukraine that the way out of this and to spare innocent lives (on both sides) was to use the Finnish model when they got independence from Russia in 1917. Silly egos and testosterone got in the way of common sense.  It has happened many times before in history and will certainly happen again.
