What amazes me

is how weak the CAD$ continues to be, and this even after a recent rate increase. Historically the dollar rallies when commodities pricing is strong. I mean it's not like Debt/GDP of Canada is any worse than USA (both are bad). Very unusual.

Agreed With oil so high it is unusual to see the Canadian dollar relatively unchanged. Does raise some concerns if the world economy craters due to high oil prices and inflation where the CAD might go.

If you want to understand why the US dollar is strong right now it's partially a flight to safety and also demand for USD from countries who has debt denominated in USD. It's a function of USD still being the reserve currency. (For now) It's all good for Suncor who operates in $CAD. They are probably getting around $150 CAD for their SCO which most likely a record price by far. Suncor ...more

canadians still remember the famed Emergency Act, they are moving money out of canada. The EA was revoked rather quickly because Cdn bankers warned JT that many Cdn bank accts were closed and money transferred out of canada within hours of  enacting the EA.  Money Changes Everything.
