Reminder: SU Ex-dividend Sept 1, 2022

Shareholders of record at close of trading on Sept 1 2022 will receive the $0.47 quarterly dividend on Sept 26, 2022.

If you are considering buying or selling SU today or tomorrow, watch your trade settlement date.

MigraineCell: I'm not sure everyone is clear about the consequences of the ex-dividend date and the record date.  SU will trade ex (without) dividend on Thursday.  That means if you buy SU before the close of business on Wednesday, you get the dividend.  If you sell before the close of business on Wednesday, you won't get the dividend.  The above pertains to the TSX ...more

Yes, correct, sorry for the confusion. However, at TD, if I had bought SU shares today Aug 29, record date, the settlement date is Aug 31, and I would get the dividend. Settlement is 2 days out. Right now the energy stocks are the place to be.They are generating boat load of cash and there is no reason to believe ...more

Sorry. I was wrong. Ex div is Sept 1, Thursday. Record date is Sept 2 Friday. Settlement date is 2 days later after purchase, so if bought Wednesday, will own the shares by close Friday to get the dividend.

So will a lot of folks jump in for the div?    or does the share price commonly drop after div date?
Comment by MigraineCall on Aug 30, 2022 11:11am
Yes, I expect a drop of about the value of the dividend on average in my experience. Today, with the big change in the US/CAD exchange rate, the .47 dividend, and algo induced drop in crude and general markets, Suncor was down far more on the US side than the Canadian side. All those things considered, with no changes in oil market fundamentals, I just used a fair chunk of dry powder today to ...more

Ya I'm playing with the idea.  I got 25k of Cve shares at under 6.20. Temped to dump but darn I like looking at that 6.20 average.  I could make 10k on dividen but once the share price drops is it a wash
