Profitability, that's all that matters in the end

Anybody doubting how profitable are SU refining operation can have a look at page 36 of the
latest Q3 results.

2022-q3-report-en (suncor.com)

They show different crack spreads from Q4 2020 to Q3 2022.

Some spreads are 5 time more.Chicago 2-1-1 went from $7.95 to $43.30.

Short term there are and will be pressure on the SP because of investors that were hoping for
a bump if retail would have been sold.

The board took the right decision to keep them.tomorrow we will see the stock go down again
on ex-div. but it will be forgoten when the SP reflects the high free cash flow and high profitability
of it's long life assets

The market reacts to changes in the outlook for a particular company.  Old news is already baked into the SP. High FCF for SU is not news - it has existed for a long time so it is already baked in...there is no OMG moment here.  The SP will only go up if there is something unexpected and new.  Right now the new development was what happened the other day - they couldn't sell ...more

I would be surprised if they are ...more

Give it rest experienced. You're stance has been made clear here yet you continue to post on this board. Perhaps it's time to take your opinion over to one of the ev boards. After all, you"re still on the "sidelines" as you've stated numerous times here, a decision which was poor in itself

Never hurts to hear the other side of the coin. Yes I think climate change is BS and this EV thing is a joke but then again I'm bias. Looking back over the years maybe if I would have listened to some of the naysayers on some of my expense stock (mistakes) learning experiences I would be retired instead of doing the day job. knowledge is power

No, thats not fair or right. I highly value Experienced's opinions here, and of many others.  The key to making correct investment decisions is to hear from both camps, optimists and pessimists, and the true path lies somewhere in the middle once you can see the best picture of the circumstances. I have also been through terrible recessioins in the past, and had I heeded advice like his ...more
