The history of the electric car

Very short overview of the history of the electric car:

Electric cars were invented in the 1880's and were quite successful in the cities.  Speeds were slow, but people only went short distances in their daily travels to work, church and errands.  No one drove them between cities because the roads were too bad and they were not suited for longer distances.  For long distances, people often paid for transportation.

Fast forward to the development of highways between cities and the ICE vehicle was adopted as being afordable, fast and efficient.

Long (and fascinating) story short, EV's will have a place in the garage for those short daily trips and will help to conserve our fuel resources.  ICE vehicles will still be the mainstay for many years to come as they have the flexibility, infrastructure and value for most people in many many places of the world.

Your points about all of the ease with which the switch could be made to EV's and pivot from ICE vehicles is notable in that, given all of these cost points, ICE vehicles are still claiming the highest duty cycle for most people in most of the markets. I like to think I am ...more

Ginger...I agree 100% that it a transition.  As I have said before, we don't really know right now how long it will take but IMO the direction arrow is clear. What I have found over the years is that it is a lot easier to make money following the direction arrow (ie having the wind at your back) than fighting the direction arrow.  As my Dad said to me a long time ago when I came ...more
