HBOC German Manufacturing PMI: August 2023: 39.1

The HBOC Germany Manufacturing PMI edged higher to 39.1 in August of 2023 from the three-year low of 38.8 in the previous month, ahead of market estimates of 38.7 but remaining sharply in the contractionary territory, according to a flash estimate. It was the fourteenth consecutive decline in German manufacturing activity, as destocking trends by customers and investment reticence drove the sharpest slump in new orders since May 2020. The developments added to consumer uncertainty and the outlook of rising interest rates, pressuring output despite another month of reduction in firms’ backlogs of work. Still, employment decreased at a marginal level. On the price front, manufacturers’ purchasing prices fell at a slower pace than the previous month. Looking ahead, goods producers displayed a slight increase in optimism for the year ahead. source: Markit Economics

- there is INCREASINGLY NO DOUBT that the COMING ECONOMIC DOWNDRAFT in Europe will be MORE SEVERE than the 2008-2009 recession

- SELF-INFLICTED TERRIBLE policies like the Russian energy sanctions (Russia was a CHEAP RELIABLE source of LOW COST ENERGY {natural gas, crude oil, diesel etc.} to Europe), HUGE investments in wind and solar power that have been DEPRESSING UNPRODUCTIVE and HIGH-COST, EXPANSIONIST SUBSIDIZED DEBT FINANCINGS that have merely PARTLY SHIELDED the public from the OUTRAGEOUS energy price SPIKE HIKES etc.

ZT....The first part of your post is something I have been saying here for quite a while. Your last paragraph is very important IMO.  Despite the total misunderstanding of my message by people here like Integrity and his associated silly labelling of me, I see the political forces for renewables as wrong headed....let market forces play out naturally   My message has been that things ...more

Experienced..... How are you connecting future of shale oil business to "collapse of banking system where all stocks could go down 90%"? What loan exposure % are you suggesting shale oil companies represent to these banks to potentially cause that much damage? Seems like they are presently generating $billions of profits as they have improved their technologies by getting out more ...more

Great question Matt If shale production in the US were to collapse as Migraine and others here have suggested for various reasons well documented on this Board, then there is a lot less money coming in.  Right now, many of the loans for shale producers (especially the independents) are in the subprime or near subprime category.  The amount of loans outstanding in this category the last ...more

Experience's big investment is in LCS of at least one of his big ones. Brompton Lifeco Split Corp. The original issue price was $10 per share and it now trades at $5.54. The year high is $6.50 and year low is $2.96. It has dropped from $6.40 on July 31 to $5.54.  Experience say on their board he has a big holding. He has no interest in SU of any other Oilsands producer . He will say ...more

Give it break my friend!!  All you are doing is demonstrating your ignorance. You have no idea what my cost base is!!!!!  Suppose you didn't read my post where I picked up a position at $5 a share a week ago for a 10% gain plus the dividend.  Last time I checked that it is better than SU has done over the past week. As for bateries etc.....you obviously can't intelligently ...more

Thank you mofwmofw for the nice words. I am a huge supporter of our Canadian Oil & Natural Gas industry and really enjoy reading all of the posts here related to it. I will continue to post on the Suncor board and other company oil company boards and try to add value when I can. I wish great health and good fortune to all the Suncor posters. I believe our oil sands and natural gas companies ...more
