Meritmat...quite possible In the US they have a Federal Estate tax and some States have an inheritance tax or an estate tax.  The exemption in the US for the estate tax is 13.6 million and so it kicks in for the very wealthy.  The State related taxes are much and some cases the exemption is set at 1 million.  Depending on the State, these taxes range from 12-18%. I agree that tax on tax is theft.   One of the good things that came out of the HST when it was created is that it eliminated the hidden takes - provincial tax on goods that was absorbed into the cost of a product and then taxed at the point of sale at what appeared to be a reasonable rate.  Meanwhile hiddin in there was another 4-6% tax. Hello Meritmat , Spidey senses , an unusual phrase and only used by one other member l have researched and he has been a member for 24 years and you for 19 .Very interesting to say the least , or perhaps some will say it's just a coincidence .I don't subscribe to Coincidences in the least. Hehe your reading to much into this.  I'm the same dumb old oilfield worker, with a fishing addiction .Don't have any west coast friends as to speak.  This is the   account I have.   I can see the Libs bringing in a wealth tax on the big bad old oil companies.  As for the Marvel reference, I'm a Spider-Man fan!!
