Fighting Trump

Seems to me that Canada needs to take a chapter out Pierre Trudeau's book when dealing with US threats to limit exports from Canada to the US.  One of things he proposed at the time and one which caused the US to back off was to threaten to impose an export tax on oil exports to the US.

Since the Gulf Coast refineries are heavily dependent on Canadian oil for feedstock, this caused a sober second thought on limiting Canadian exports and imposing tarrifs on Canadian resource exports to the US.  In addition Trudeau threatened to turn off the taps for Canadian exports of water to the US and this caused the farmers in the Midwest to push for a change in US policy (don't forget that not a drop of the water from the Colorado River actually gets to the ocean)

In today's world such a policy decision on oil exports from Canada would cause fuel shortages in the US and a massive spike in inflation.  Something that would sink Trump's popularity real quick.

IMO Premier Ford has taken this lesson to heart with his threats to limit Ontario electricity exports to the US.

So what is Trudeau junior proposing?.... limiting orange juice imports from the US...lol.  Amateur hour at its finest!! The beauty of what Trudeau senior proposed was that the revenue from the export tax would stay in Canada and could be used to offset pain from the US tarrifs as opposed to the tarrifs being paid by US importers and the money going to Trump.

Yes, it is really that simple. Unfortunately when you have a buffoon like Truduh Jr. negotiating we're sunk like the Titanic!!!!

I think for now the provinces premieres are calling the shot , I think they told justine "son with the mess you did we will tell you now how we will fix your mess , if you want salvage a bit of your decade " so think Justine is now a puppet and the provinces hold the strings .... remember we only have to go 3 months before Pierre take over , we won't crash in 3 months

relax, oil bugs. Trump specifically mentioned US doesn't need Cdn dairy, autos and lumber.  Didn't mention Cdn crude. It is IMO that trump may exempt tariff on western oilsand import. Beside, alberta is maga friendly and DS has good relationship with republican governors. Soon Ontario slip into a have not province and sucking up more transfer payment from western provinces, more ...more

Lol, ya the state of Wisconsin produces more milk than all of Canada, that's why he doesn't care about our milk, and he is hoping our industry falls off to nothing. We do however ship him 80% of our oil so if dumb dumb had even 1 brain cell in his head he would use that as leverage over the tariffs, but i know that's not possible.
