Vertex and Witkowski Partnership

StinkFisher, are you Trying to bury my posts?  For those who didn't see it or trying to ignore it, here it is again:

https://www.pwitkowski.org/vertex

It would appear that our patient 7 could potentially be patient 1 for Vertex. Pete has been sharing his bed with Vertex while going steady with Sernova. Might be a while before we get that 7th patient. Vertex is even paying their participants.

Spill always finds these double crossing bozos. When it stinks like doo doo everywhere you go, maybe it's time to check your shoe Spill?

I see nothing that I would find unusual here. Dr. Witkowski has been reporting on his website that he is very interested in carrying out transplant into the portal vein and he has commented that being unable to do so in the USA was something he was very much disturbed by. He seems to have been successful in getting permission to do what I will call the "Edmonton protocol" or the long ...more

And Sernova's pouch may become the happy home for cells to treat not just T1D, hemophilia and thyroid disease, but other diseases as well. Just dreaming here but the potential is enormous. They haven't hit a significant roadblock yet. I would think the AgeX collaboration might be the weakest link but that won't be a deal breaker if the Conformal coating works. I like how Sernova has ...more

Bio I'm sure you noticed Vertex is injecting via portal vien.  What ever happened to the device they bought from Semma that was intended for the IPSC?  When they realize injecting into the portal vien isnt optimal its pretty clear what the next step is.    Seeing those two names together and knowing the symbotic relationship that could exist defiently makes me feel like ...more

They are proving their stem cells work while they get preclinical sorted for their device. With sernova paving the way for device approval, it'll make their life easier to get a human trial going should they even use a device. They could technically just inject the unlimited supply of cells into the portal vein as a solution if they get their anti rejection formula sorted out and the cells ...more

They have some major hurdles to overcome if they plan to go with the Portal vein route.   When injecting straight into frontline immune tissue, immune protection will be more challenging.  Another problem is containing and removing any potentially tumorigenic cells.  Tumorigenicity is a clinical hurdle for pluripotent stem cells and being able to contain them and ...more

They proved there is no concern for tumors that's why they are allowed to inject the cells without a device. Could be why we aren't getting a deal, any cell line suppliers probably thinking they let vertex to jump all the regulatory hurdles and then just ride the coatails with their own product once approved. Device may be obsolete before even has a chance to see the light of day. Let' ...more

Only if the injected stem cell islets cause IBMIR ( instant blood-mediated inflammatory reaction) would the pouch prove useful as you can only inject into the liver a couple times before you potentially ruin your liver. Maybe as a plan B for those who try the liver injection and it doesn't take. Time will tell.
Comment by MustangSalley on Feb 19, 2022 7:49pm
Bio, Where did they prove there is no concerns about no concerns for tumours ? The premise of a device is so that the cells maybe be retrievable because in the past stem cells went to areas and caused tumours .  Vertex is dumping preembryonic cells in the portal vein . There is insulin independence but we don't know for how long .  I believe the race will be between Vertex and ...more

Agree MS, Bio Vertex may have convinced them that there is no problems injecting into the portal vein but they still have to prove it and apart from using expermantial anticancer treatments or inhibitors this will be a problem.   Even if they get around that hurdle they are still injecting into frontline immune tissue so long term immune protection will be much harder.
Comment by Redbaron2211 on Feb 19, 2022 10:50pm
Vertex is showing good results with their cells but its not a surprise the IPSC cells work.  The challenge will be in immunosuppression and long term safety both of which are more probable with a device IMO.       Whoever is looking to acquire Vertex could easily scoop up Sernova as part of a package deal that would increase chances of success, derisk and  ...more

Only if spill and co decide to sell. Remember, everyone wants to be the man that cures diabetes. Money can't buy that legacy.

Not sure how old this article is but a positive for SVA until vertex announces their device. https://www.hopkinsmedicine.org/stem_cell_research/safety_ethics/are_induced_pluripotent_stem_cells_safe_yet.html

It was created on 2017-06-21 but is still relevant and agree it's a positive for SVA. Not so with stem cells. Once you put them in, thats it. You cant withdraw them. Theres no kill switch. Sigilon is a good example of another problem that could arise and reason beyond cancer of why these cells should be easy to remove. The immune system could start to recognize and attack the insulin produced ...more

Agree with you BioTeck.  I get uneasy when companies think they have such a head start that they get complacent.  Philip seems over confident in Sernova's positioning.
Comment by Mercuryfilling1 on Feb 20, 2022 11:26pm
And your comment re complacency is based on what, exactly?  He seemed confident, I'll grant you that.

Excited is the word I would use to describe Dr. T during the interview.

compacency based on taking way too long in getting a deal done.  As indicated in other posts, either Philip is chasing the "perfect" deal (letting perfect getting in the way of very good)... which is not necessarily in shareholder interests and squandering the lead the company has been able to achieve.  Or there is no interest in a deal with SVA at this time... which in my ...more

sailboat..you are wasting your breath on Merc a derp. He is a company shill. Management is either a consummate liar or grossly incompetent. Every investor I know here has been told a slightly different story and not one of them has turned out to be true. At this point I am holding my position for the singular purpose of voting against the BOD and management. We sit around waiting for something of ...more

There goes Metals, stamping his little feet again. No, I'm not a company shill. I've been invested here since SVA was Pheremone Sciences and they were cranking out fertiity watches. https://www.wsj.com/articles/SB112898328788264846 Maybe Metals you should get one...you could identify your most fecund vs most hysterical moments.

As we seem to be advancing the science, I think Sernova's bargaining position for either a take-out or a partnership gets stronger every day. Sernova's bargaining chip is its pouch. I don't think portal vein technologies will beat it out. Are you worried that other players will get ahead of them with their own pouch-type products if they don't secure a deal soon? Surely Sernova has ...more

How long would SVA last in a legal battle against say Vertex? 25 million that they have left wouldn't get them very far protecting patents. Then what? Another PP?

BTW Sailboat, I appreciate the civil response...I don't agree with it, but at least it was civil (take note Metals, next time you're telling someone to dust off their knees or wipe off their chin...Crikey!)
