3 patients have now been insulin independent ffor over 2 and a half years.

Oh Rixy, did you even read the news? What about the other 3 who are having immunosuppression issues?  And also, only one patient is off insulin for 2 years, the other one 6 months, and the last 3.

I am not sure immunosuppression is continuing to have issues in the other three patients, Bio. News release states: "Three additional patients on study did not maintain optimal immunosuppression, which has now been resolved enabling those patients to receive further protocol-defined islet transplants." But for sure immunosuppression via conformal coating or gene editing is becoming the ...more

  Yeah, by all accounts, the pouch works well when immunosuppression is maintained. Lots of reasons that optimal immunosuppression not maintained: (1) Patient compliance (2) Adverse reaction to a particular immunosuppressant (3) Co-morbid condition causing immunosuppressants to be held for a time Many more but none of them have anything to do with whether the pouch works and ...more
