Extended cold snap in Alberta
Anyone have an idea of how the record cold in Alberta of the last week will affect the earnings of Alberta Power Producers for Q1 2024? TD had a report today on Alberta Power Producers but the report didn't seem to take in the effects of the recent cold snap.

I speculate it will be very positive - for 5 days the daily average price was ~$500/MWh or more, with extended periods of $1000/MWh. For the merchant part of their portfolio (i.e that is not pre-contracted), and which accounts at a minimum for >15% of their capacity, this would be highly lucrative. It should show up in the financial report in one of the next two quarters.

lighter789 thanks for the information. Very useful. Q1 24 will also be the first full quarter for the RNW acquisition assets under TA and full production at Kent Hills. It should be a good quarter but we're only two weeks into the quarter.

The big queston is "how much power did they hedge?". Management has a history of squandering profits.
