Headwinds=opportunity

Headwinds=opportunity

Headwind1:
Recent BF violence.  Alarming & deplorable? yes
will many would be investors paint all BF mines with the same brush? Yes many will.
Opportunity: most of the time there is an initial over reaction to news ( good or bad). There are many relatively very safe areas of BF where dozens of small to big miners operate. The area is too important in terms of quantities of gold.
Opportunity: maybe the BF Government will finally act forcefully & militarily in order to protect their tax base. They need do something in order to combat Islamic insurgence ( mainly on the fringes).  Nothing moves governments faster than the possibility of no further capital investments ( or worse the pullout of active companies)
Opportunity: diversify your gold portfolio across multiple jurisdictions ( eg South America, west Africa, US, Canada, etc)

Headwind2:
Possibilty of a Phase 1 Trade deal between China & US. Supports stock prices and reduces demand for safe haven investments like gold.

Opportunity : SP are at or near all time highs, massive Government overindebtedness everywhere, corporate profits set to fall in YoY comparisons, longest bull market on record is on borrowed time. A quasi trade deal will NOT save the day. Once a watered down deal is announced the market will collapse after this blow- off top.  Risk: Trump knows this and has to buy time until the election.

Headwind3
Gold still in a consolidation period. Could continue for another month or two or three. All gold boats falling in the meantime.

Opportunity: once finished there is likely to be a very quick SnapBack in all gold share prices. Good time to be accumulating gold equities. Gold WILL. make an attempt to take out old highs ($1900Usd) in 2020 or 2021. best leverage is in gold equities.

glta TGZ longs in taking advantage of these clear but mostly short term headwinds

Looks like the govt is trying to sort out the problems in Burkino,  I know France sent troops to help and the US military is also active in trying to bring security to the region.   The new mine is in a more stable area but it's still Africa and has risks which I think are priced in.   https://www.france24.com/en/20191117-burkina-faso-army-says-32-terrorists-killed-after ...more

Bob- I was thinking the same thing. TGZ is holding its own, and actually appreciating notwithstanding the recent turbulance in Africa and the recent decrease in POG (although still can't seem to break this trading range!). Have heard nothing recently about Massawa or from our friend DM, but maybe its time ....

"I know France sent troops to help and the US military is also active in trying to bring security to the region.   The new mine is in a more stable area but it's still Africa and has risks which I think are priced in." - BM I agree with the priced in part.  The general problem in Afica, as I understand it, is that the US is generally pulling out military support from ...more

MM, - "So it's not clear to me how TGZ can bite off Massawa, unless Barrick agrees to take back a large chunk of TGZ shares as compensation for the property." I think the Massawa Barrick thing is a major distraction,  it just complicates things are this stage,  there are just too many questions at this point.  I do not think it helps move the price up at this stage ...more

There are some pundits calling for $ 50,000 gold... so you'll be able to order 3 Tesla's and a Yacht and private jet. Lol I agree fully with your first two paragraphs. Massawa would be nice as a gift, but it ain't gonna happen.  Organic growth is assured. Faster SP  growth if the PoG cooperates even just up to $1900 in the next few years.  MM

I found this really telling graphic on the flash points in BF.  Waghion is nowhere near any of these flash points and Golden Hill is roughly in the area where the name Burkino Faso is on the map.  Both seem to be in safe spots relative to the attacks.     https://graphics.reuters.com/SECURITY-ATTACK-SECURITY/0100B2ZZ245/SEMAFO-ATTACK.jpg SP seems to be on the up today ...more

Massaw works very well if it involves a JV - and perhaps financing from DM (that gets him to 29'%?), not to mention his influence in the area. The bottom line is that the proximity and mill make Massawa potentially a huge play for TGZ - if done right. So I don't think it's a distraction at all. A JV involving Barrick is also a nice hedge. Massawa is a great opportunity, and the mill ...more

"The divestment is part of Barrick’s, the world’s second largest gold producer, drive to dispose of non-core assets.“While this iconic gold mine has been a valuable contributor to Barrick over the years, the asset does not fit with our strategy of operating mines that we own,” the Canadian gold producer said in a statement. https://business.financialpost.com/commodities/mining/saracen-to-buy ...more
