Poor price momentum has to be related to underground development. First production being pushed further out and increases in development costs. This is likely the major headwind at play here. Ultimately, first production being pushed out is not the main issue if you are a long-term investor. Higher costs (hence higher debt) than predicted is what you would be mostly concerned about and is the only ...more

I might add, instead of voting for or against the independent directors, some minority shareholders rather decided to vote with their feets (i.e. exit and not bother anymore.) following the recent letter and response to that letter.

First and foremost..Oyu Tolgoi is a MAJOR Tier I cooper / gold mine with a 100 year mine life. Secondly you need to look at Share ownship..Rio owns 51 % Institutional share holders own another 34 or 35 %..which leaves retail investors 14 -15 % of the balance. The largest of the institutionals hedge their investment to maintain a return (on what they know is a long term investment) using their own ...more

What's your toughts on a potential buyout from Rio and/or GOM? I suspect at these levels they could interested. Recall RIO put just over 3B for a majority 51% stake at a much earlier stage of the company. Minority stakes are worth less but still the company has grown since then. RIO could also be interested to make an offer just so they can stop bothering about institutional shareholders ...more

The RIO buyout rumor is a canard. They don't need to buy the minority stakes as TRQ has fronted the GOM their 1/3 share. There are no assurances that the GOM will ultimately pay for that share. IMO
