Just more empowerment to CFIA for labelling and traceability.  If irradiation would have been endorsed it would have been the final nail in coffin for Econiche. Econiche lives for another day.

I left out the fact that the current Econiche/VMC status is unsustainable (past due already). Does anyone have any data or information regarding the effects of eating irradiated meat (or any food for that matter) has on the human body? Has any study been done to confirm such? Can the government possibly approve the process without knowing for sure what those long tern effects may be? The last I heard is that they need the safety proof first before they will endorse any process. I don't ...more

From what I know when Beef or anything is irradiated it kills all bacteria including the good bacteria that our stomachs need. Think probiotics. It also turns the meat grey and if the meat is now left out, other potential ( possibly harmful) bacteria will multiply excessively and have a field day as there is no competition. GLTA Wussy

I doubt that the government feels any compelling reason to mandate irradiation.   The entire notion was probably nothing more than a ploy to give the impression that the industry had a solution, knowing full well that it wouldn't take hold.
