We used to use the term " Snowjob"
When I began my corporate career the the term " Snowjob" was used to masquerade a particular product or innovation that we felt was a threat to the establishment. Not necessarily a technological threat, but a threat to what was familiar and what was comfortable for us the establishment. Of course there were protagonists, innovators, and futurist, globally minded thinkers, but they were easily marginalized. There was little concern for the consumer or end user, despite our false protests in their defence, but if It required turning the battleship and adding to, or worse, altering our paradigm, it was relegated to a "snow job". It was too much work and self query to change or slightly alter our approach to the market. My industry was 3 decades in and 3 decades old without innovation. Without sounding flippant, people didn't die for our sedentary intellect, but they were less comfortable in their home or office. they went bankrupt with thousands of arms in the air asking what happened but people didn't die. This was a "snow job".
