Touchstone Exploration Inc > A question to the wise re: oil flow test on 2nd zone.

A question to the wise re: oil flow test on 2nd zone.

Can we take it as a positve that--unlike the watery zone--they are talking about testing this higher up zone for flow rate of oil rather than declaring it to be too watery to be commercial. They seemed to infer that what they saw from this zone was positive. For those with tech expertise, would they be able to tell this from what they saw from the preliminary results. Or is this wishful thinking.

Lurk & Learns + Utkant123: Thanks to Utkant123 for the Slumberger "paper" on all things "resevoir". I believe that another resource to give the reader a primer on the Paleo-Petrology, could be the paper published by Charles Hing: T'dad Petrology & (EOR) Enhanced Oil Recovery Initiatives GLTAL -GLAP Cheers Stanley

Wishful no, educated yes.

It sounds like they perf'd the sub thrust zone and got some oil shows with a majority of water, no mention of if it flowed or just swabbed but assume it was normally pressured and swabbed, being primarily water they abandoned and moved to the second next zone higher.  This still tells us we still have potential oil updip in this lowest subthrust sheet if we have structure elsewhere.  ...more

Lowest zone atChinook was very high pressure and high temperature but flowed water with trace of oil. They didn't say much about middle zone but is has oil shows at least, no mention of water. No mention of natural gas. It is not proven to be commercial yet. As for upper zone of 341 feet, we also don't know much about that. We are assuming it is natural gas under pressure that will have ...more

Didn't Paul at some point, maybe during an interview state that he thought Chinook was a world class discovery, or something like that. So is it possible the last remaining zone/s could be dry ? Seems that with all the data gathered on Cascadura just prior to Chinook, getting Chinook so wrong would be dam near impossible. I presume when you hit a high pressure gas zone of 341' it's ...more

I am hoping it is unmistakeable that the upper 341' is gas under pressure.  But they also thought the middle 180 feet was natural gas  (it was oil of uncertain quantity) and the also though the lowest 80 feet was natural gas (it was hot water of ample quantity).  Just need to find out and report the results.

I am suspecting that the intermediate level have both oil AND gas so that they will perform one oil test and two more gas tests in Chinook. I could be wrong though. Will be interesting to see the results as they come!

You're correct - API 35 oil contains gas
Comment by Goaweigh on Mar 16, 2021 6:23pm
Is that always the case or just in this case. ? Thanks
Comment by Davidblackgreen on Mar 16, 2021 6:38pm
Obviously always!
Comment by Goaweigh on Mar 16, 2021 7:21pm
So sorry David, I should have been more specific. The mere presence of gas doesn't interest me as much as the quantity and maybe the API determines the amount of gas but maybe not, maybe each well contains larger or smaller quantities of gas regardless of API in which case it might be site specific. So one well of ours at API 35 may contain a large volume of gas while another well at the same ...more

I don't think there is a set guidance that 1 barrel of API 35 oil will yield x amount of gas.  what I do know is that one of the primary reasons for doing a EWT is for fluid sampling. The EWT will determine how much oil/gas comes from one unit. The other reasons for EWT to to determine a field production plan - how many wells/where to put them -, accurate reservoir size, initial ...more

What apparently is good about getting gas in oil is that it Re-pressurises it as oil being extracted. So that enhances recovery and its naturally engineered.   Or so one of my oilers indicated. Anyway the tests are what matters and they should all be done in 6 weeks.
