Sadly, Russia will invade Ukraine this week.

Russia has prepared buffers for the West's sanctions and worked out deals with China who will simply purchase more oil & gas from Russia and support them economically and militarily in every way!

That been said, Russia will no doubt turn off the taps to Europe as a counter measure to imposed sanctions. Europe will bring in LNG & oil  from the U.S by way of ocean cargos but at a higher cost.

This will be very bullish for VET as Brent and NAT Gas in Europe will surely rise rapidly. This is a catalyst to 100.00-200.00 Brent Crude Prices and this will go on for a long time no doubt.

VET could go through the roof as they are mostly a producer of gas & oil in Europe. The value of the company will increase dramatically operating in a geography starved for their products.

VET north of $100 SP by Autumn?

careful, you may give some of us Old Geezers a heart attack with talk like that !!

Unfortunatly, it's inevitable because neither side will concede. NATO could end this now by simply promising that Ukraine will never be a part of NATO but they won't so Putin cannot permit this to ever occur. Better to take losses now then have Ukraine join NATO in the future which could surely spark a 3rd world war. Right now, Ukraine is by itself so Russia can invade and take it over ...more

Your thinking makes a lot of sense Dukes, although maybe it can drag on with some kind of compromise ??
Comment by DukesMtl on Feb 20, 2022 9:09pm
Russia has already stated that it won't be dragged into endless diplomatic talks. They were clear in their terms and NATO/Biden were clear that they would not be obliging them.

Announced tonight that Biden has requested a meeting this week with Russia as brokered by France. Hopefully it will not be a one on one meeting. Biden may go down that old story line about Corn Pop. He will need a coach in his ear or scripted lines -- that will certainly impress Putin. What will be the result of a meeting like that? Will he give away the farm?

I don't believe one bit of that narrative.. first of all NATO does not start wars.. so there's no danger to Russia if the Ukraine joins NATO.. Russia is just using that as an excuse to justify nefarious actions and put pressure on countries to clear Nordstream 2 and I believe that will be the final chapter in these talks... allow Nordstream 2 and we won't invade Ukraine.. then the ball ...more

There is danger for everyone if ukraine joins nato. Nato troops.on russias border are not a good idea for anyone.
Comment by DukesMtl on Feb 20, 2022 11:15pm
Exactly! It's in Russias interest and the worlds interest that Ukraine remain a buffer zone between NATO & Russia. Russia is simply asking a guarantee from NATO for this to continue as is! Should Biden/Nato refuse this request, don't cry when Russia invades Kiev and every death, refugee and suffering will be because of NATO's refusal to provide assurity to Russia who had ...more

Putin just made his big anti-Ukraine speech to the homeland just after their "Welcome Home" celebrations for the Russian Olympic team. He basically claims Ukraine is an illegitimate state and should never have been taken away from Russia. Tomorrow, Feb. 22nd is also an historic date of shame for him from 2014 when an uprising of Ukraines humiliated the Russian forces. It's 10:30 p.m ...more

Comment by Moemoney42 on Feb 21, 2022 3:41pm
Again I say NATO has never started a war ever, and never will.. but they will surely fight one, if provoked.. a buffer zone against someone with no intentions of invading Russia doesn't seem like a "legitimate concern". What about Cuba.. remember the Cuban missle crisis.. the US didn't take over Cuba for a bigger "buffer" although they tried to remove a dictator in the ...more

That is bs. What unsc approval did they have to attack libya. They certainly attacked afghanistan. And what about yugoslavia? They did not attack any nato countries

mnztr who is the "they" you are referring to? After reading Moemoney42 followed by you I am confused as to who is being referred to.
