Do you know how to read Oldnagger? This is from your own article. "However, no effects on power grid stability are currently expected due to redundant communication capabilities of the responsible grid operators. Further investigations into the cause are being carried out by the company concerned in close exchange with the responsible authorities," BSI said. No effects?!?!? SO ...more

As an engineer, I have done reliability work for critical systems (Heavy Water Plants )  A vast power net work on which many other critical systems depends is of prime importance for the sake of reliability. Already we know that individual small networks of wind turbines are especially unreliable providers of power. That hackers were able to penetrate the larger network should be cause for ...more

Yes, we should all be concerned by Europe's dependancy on Russian fossil fuels. Of course, there should be no doubt that Russia was behind the attempt to destabilize one of Europe's alternatives to Russian energy. The weakness here is not green energy but (Russian) fossil fuels. Germany has indeed recognized this, reconsidering its promises to close down coal plants and nuclear plants ...more

The conversion to non fossil fuels will not only be necessary for climate reasons but inevitable for all reasons as one by one economical reserves diminish. First to go will probably be light crudes, then heavy crudes followed by natural gas and finally by coal. I realize that zealous people wish that the transition happened 20 years ago. But it didn't. Too much need and too much greed, So the ...more

I agree on many points here. But you completely mischaracterized a news article to baselessly attack renewables. If it wasn't intentional, it was definitely careless. I should apologize for the ad-hominems. I went too far in criticizing you for it, but I do feel some criticizing was warranted. I should have done it more respectfully.

If as you say, I completely mis- characterized a news article, that was clearly not my intention, I highly value my reputation and strive to be fair and open to the best of my ability. Otherwise ,why even bother to post ? Believe me I have many other interests that I need my attention . My mistake has been to allow my past experience to jump to a conclusion , without always bringing the reader ...more

By the way, I have said this before, but it bears repeating , VET has one of the best ESG scores in the industry. Based on its share price versus its assets, it is one of the most undervalued firms in the industry. My way to help the planet is to invest in VET and other companies like it. If only the rest of the world would agree, then maybe we will truly be able to make things better. If ...more

Unfettered capitalism is not exactly my dream Oldnagger! Political interference is usually a reflection of the electorate. It is unfortunate that so many democracies are taken for granted by their electorate which allows the vested interests to hijack the agenda.  The real answer lies in an eductated electorate. Maybe the lesson of Ukraine will be that democracy is fragile and should never be ...more

Agreed, Governments should make democratic rules for the common good for all to follow ,then they should get out of the way. That is not the case now and it seems to be getting worse IMHO

I'd like to add that I don't think anyone here is "against" the development of alternative energy sources.. but what is short sighted and misguided is for gov'ts to put road blocks on the O&G sector without a firm alternative in place for years, to weed out the potential issues that will arise with that "green new deal", because rest assured there WILL be issues ...more

"Green energy is part of the solution for Europe and the world." As long as you define it as a whole lot more than wind and solar and guild it in a time frame and cost that can be sensible and within reason. If they continue to push the scare tactics and fear mongering and a real narrow focus then don't ask me to defend or support your agenda. I am not opposed to change because I ...more

Egg all over their face? Because they still rely on Russian fossil fuels for most of their power? I guess that's true. Wind and solar are locally generated, so they provide independence. Also, they don't aggravate climate change. You acknowledge climate change, but you seem to minimize its cost. While that cost is hard to define, it is definitely real. It is the impetus behind the ...more
