Not official, just the word from workers on site

Liner being installed in pit, making pit into a retaining pond. Water treatment was only made to treat arsenic and now they’re going to  be treating cyanide through it and it’s right beside Camp. Camp is moving to the gate, they’re going to stay in wall tents

where did you get that information?
Comment by crazytimes on Jul 15, 2024 10:19am
If this is true, I would think it might be pretty hard to start up mining again from a pit that is now a retaining pond? Would be interested in everyones take on this? I am not an expert in using your main pit as a retaining pond! Would appreciate input from some of the miners on the site if they have ever heard of doing this on a mine that was then restarted afterwards in the near future! Thanks ...more

Agreed, if this is true then the Eagle Mine as we all knew it will be no longer. What a shame!
Comment by crazytimes on Jul 15, 2024 11:19am
If it is true, and word is out, then shouldn't there be a halt and the news anytime, as could turning the pit into a retaining pond not be material news? Would it be fair for some to trade knowing this and others not? Just my opinion.

Maybe the report is bogus this called a BULLboard for good reason. Perhaps the company knows it's not going under and a financing is imminent who knows. If the company knows it's going bankrupt they would have to halt the stock.

you didn't watch the video? They need permission to clean the area,we,re not talking about bankruptsy for now.

I don't think the report is bogus Robert41, but I do think the information provided by widrig (who I believe previously stated that his son or relative worked at the mine) is being misinterpreted by many on this board (and perhaps even by him).  First of all when widrig mentions in his post "Liner being installed in pit, making pit into a retaining pond" I highly doubt they are ...more

HB.... I am a little mixed up here as you are talking about the PAD?? . Wasn't Widrig saying he heard about the PIT??? "Liner being installed in pit, making pit into a retaining pond" I have no idea if this is true or not, but if it is do i understand your theory correctly that someone on site would confuse the pad with the pit? Just my opinion
Comment by OCB1234 on Jul 15, 2024 2:48pm
I feel bad for HB apparently being the last 'long' standing, but I give him credit for hanging in there despite Victoria looking like a dying quail at this point.
Comment by HoneyBadger77 on Jul 15, 2024 2:51pm
Well Crazytimes, building a retaining pond in the pit doesn't make any sense to me.  Turning the In-Heap Pond into a 'Temporary' retainment pond certainly does.  Maybe I'm missing something here and maybe widrig can weigh in here and provide some clarification. Have a look at the video around the 12 second mark and notice where the pit is in relation to the HLF ...more

HB.. Thanks. You have a good point. just my opinion

HB is it possible the event pond directly above the camp and below the toe of the slide is the pond being refered to? It would make sense to divert any potential run off from a rain event to the lowest point of the uncontained 2 million tonnes of leached ore, which would be the large event pont. From there it could be pumped back up to the larger rectangle event pont designed for overflow ...more

i do beleive also considering there was only 40M tonnes of rocks on the pad(which can support 80M tonnes),that the slide could have been caused by the dozer or the truck; unless it's a region subject to earthquakes.
Comment by mdjbrown on Jul 15, 2024 7:17pm
Very well said HB77 It is also my belief as stated many times that the dozer operator will be the most important witness in this whole incident. Initially I thought it might be a new operator that veered slightly of course, but the report mentioned he was 2 year guy, so that would not be the case here. That said, I would not be one bit surprised to learn that there was a combination of ...more

Robert I agree there are a lot of things that have to happen before backruptcy and/or creditor protection can be recognized. Untill the board, owners or legal states we're out and we are declaring bankruptcy and are seeking creditor protection, or whatever course they take, they are still an operating entity as in this case they are working on env issues front row and centre.  Thank you ...more

Thank you I assume this is just for cleanup and remediation of spill. Best
Comment by Powermano7 on Jul 15, 2024 4:13pm
Could be they are upgrading the catchment pit just above the camp. This was intended for rainwater runoff that may contain chemicals commonly found in gold mining rock but not intended to catch the contaminated tailings runoff. This sound to me like a necessary water management strategy as there will be tailings water in the area that need to be dealt with. Not sure how they will do this as this ...more

Sorry Powermano, I didnt see you post before responding to HB Totally agree with you and they could easliy send in a couple Vac trucks in to suck the pond dry, line it mutiple times, and have it ready for any rain wash that may leach from the uncontained ore. Makes perfect sense as well if the camp is being relocated for the time being.
