Why

Figure out what the root cause of the failure is? Most of you have already shorted all Yukon miners and said mining is done in Yukon.

a lot of you already seem to have determined the root cause is not due to anything Victoria did wrong or could have prevented and instead blame everyone else. Engineers, Yukon govt, FN, etc...everyone is to blame except Victoria.

and as a result...close the borders...mining is done and there will be no new mines in Yukon ever....

ridiculous....you all are just sooooo dramatic and need to get back on your meds.

Some people here are in denial and have been wrong from day one of this disaster, the outcome was inevitable, no income and massive costs going forward VG was toast as of June 24. YTG have indicated they want Eagle back in production, which may or may not happen, it will take time to understand the causes of this disaster and adopt new policies to govern future mines in the Yukon. The economic ...more

If Newmont or Rio or any other major approached Yukon and said, "listen, we will chip in $200M towards clean up and anything over that will be covered by Yukon or federal govt...and we will out Eagle back into production ...what would Yukon say? I'm willing to bet they would be jumping over themselves to sign up!  point being...is I totally agree with you...there is absolutely no ...more

SSR TURKEY.  I dont think thats the Yukon. Need a geography lesson. How old are you?
Comment by Routan on Aug 19, 2024 8:01pm
It seems pretty clear Hecla has already become the front runner here.
Comment by SWHusky on Aug 19, 2024 8:02pm
Please elaborate.
Comment by Routan on Aug 20, 2024 2:31am
Was Hecla not the company contracted to build the safety berm?
Comment by Heywood_Silvers on Aug 20, 2024 12:49am
Hecla will swoop in and "steal" the Eagle Mine for pennies on the dollar.  Just like ATAC and Alexco, can't say I can blame them, if the opportunity presents itself......

First nations would tell you to get lost! Casino has two strikes against it.  Repeat after me.  Tailings Pond.  Heap Leach. Coffee is scrap in it's present form, trying to find a buyer for a while. The Yukon doesn't care about majors anymore. No ones signing up for anything. Read this NON Yukon Heap failure - https://www.ssrmining.com/2024-copler-incident/ And inform ...more

No, most of the people here fully understand who is responsible and who is not.  Every group is ready to point the finger away from their parts in this unfortunate event. Nobody was willing to put aside the politics to work together for the greater good. Including the representatives of the public company. The Yukon has recieved millions in benefits from investors who made the mine ...more

routan, John McConnell was willing to work wth PwC even as PwC had paperwpork axing him in the works.  And I have good idea where that came from. No day in court not even a hearing, no 30 days, nothing except we're sending you into receivership with guess what taxpayers money.  I don't give a sht what people said he did or did not, there's been a lot of agenda's a foot ...more

Exactly Husky!   I'd be curious to know if JM was terminated 'With Just Cause' or 'Without Cause'.  And if 'With Just Cause' the Just Cause details...what? he refused to build their berm because he was rightfully concerned about doing so with no engineering and concerned for the safety of VG workers?   As you say Husky, no hearing or opportunity ...more

It seems unlikely that PWC could have terminated JM for cause but it does suggest incompetence. I'm just not sure who is incompetent. Is it JM, is it PWC or YTG?  There needs to be much more transparency, especially now that it's public money at play.  As for JM, it seems that his announcement is the first time in a while that he is getting in front of the situation. Now it is ...more

Maybe it's because every time they see him on site they think "Boy did you ever get ripped off?" Are you saying PwC are a bunch of spin doctors. imo
Comment by saddlerack on Aug 20, 2024 12:56pm
I think that if they respond at all they either have to say that McConnell is incompetent or too expensive. But I doubt that they would say either, so will find some way to spin their decision.

Super entertaining conversations.  Stock untradable likely worth zero moving forward and posters like this obsessing about how did Tom Brady tie his shoelaces.  Termination small talk, meaningless to current shareholders but I get it, distract oneself from the pain I guess is a warranted reason. Or go back and read your 2 year old posts about how you felt management was taking on far ...more

Whateverrr, this board is now full of JM apologists. Most are probably not familiar with this company and history. Because JM said he could have cleaned this up and started production again in the spring is like when he kept telling us about project 250 when they couldn't even produce more than 150-160 oz.  I give him credit for getting this mine built, but that is it. He has been a ...more

Hey Swing ??  I just hope there is enough petty cash for the Banyan CEO to get the lower back tatoo of "Project 250k" removed by laser.
Comment by Routan on Aug 20, 2024 10:09am
I agree with you that JM is the scape goat here. I just think he did not play the few cards he had very well. Definitely it was a difficult situation to navigate. I think they should of had a PR spokesperson out there much sooner doing damage control and giving the Companies side of the story. YGT said they were in regular contact with VG yet also were saying they did not know what was being done ...more

Routan, John was told to clam up by his legal team and he also stated he regretted that.  I'll also tell you whose got terabytes worth of infomation on what exactly what in the hell was going on, just look at the general managers and subords records. Every scrap of information goes to and through that position.  Unfortunately those records might no longer be available. imo
