Friday afternoon news never good makes large acquistion  my bet is that this deal was not what they thought but I a hope it was more along the line if inappropriate behviour than operation issues  something is wrong  but the stock is cheap and a great business that should be acquired

I'm going to disagree and agree with you . First the agreements  - friday afternoon news never good . Company is losing a respected leader unexpectedly.. Second , the stock is cheap and a great business....... But to make the acquisition a bad deal or that there has been "inappropriate behaviour " ........ ". I agree with you "possibleid" - I believe your assessment is right on - losing a respected leader unexpectedly is not good anyway you look at it... his work left the company in a much better place with nose pointing at some necessary products in semicondustor and others... I can understand that family comes first but it is a loss.  We wish him well.

I appreciate the more postive perspective but never take the language in a PR about departure at face value if all was good he would have waited for his replacement - maybe his wife gave him an ultimatum but unlikely  I am long  the company has done a tremendous job reducing debt, buying back shares, getting into other markets I saw VNP as an acquistion target for chemical company ...more

I do hear what you are saying but it's possible that he thought he was staying for the next year or two but he woke up one day and he thought I just can't do this anymore. It alll depends on how you intrepret "After consulting with the board of directors, we have agreed that a new President and Chief Executive Officer should lead the Company in its next chapter." "possibleid" makes sense - there are 2 other things to consider. one: he thanks his employees but not his board. two: only one board member have related industry experience, last year two members with direct industry experience left the board.

does it matter: more times than not when a key executive departs its a flag especially after a very large acquistion  if he was super excited about the future of the company he would have to have a very good reason to not continue such as a health issue and he did not even provide a long time line for the transition which is not typical for a situation like this yes it could simply be he is ...more

My does it matter referred to the fact that no matter why , the reality is the company has / will have a new CEO.
