Of my earlier posts regarding the 50% inclusion rate affecting O&G stocks lately.. Kevin O'leary (love him or hate him) was just on BNN stating that he too was selling stock to captialize on the lower rate.. and his comment was "we all were" meaning the crowd he runs with.. which IMO are big money players..
Sad thing about this confirmation is that he said now that he has completed these sells that money is NOT coming back into Canadian markets..!! How many other big money players are doing the same..??
Congrats Freekland and Trudope for putting Canada at an even worse advantage for global investment dollars that it already was..!!!!
The writing is on the wall with the last bi-election.. say bu-bye you two..!

"pushback from small businesses, farmers and medical professionals."???? Those three categories of enterprises have just seen their one time shelter from ANY and ALL capital gains taxes rise from one million to 1.25 million as part of today's changes to capital gains taxes. Cry me a river!
Comment by Moemoney42 on Jun 25, 2024 2:01pm
Obviously you've never started a business, farmed or are a medical professional.. $1 million will buy you one combine that might be worth 200G in 5 years if you're lucky..! That doesn't even take into consideration the numerous other pieces of equipment needed. Another $800G for a tractor.. another 350G for an air seeder.. another 250G for a sprayer... get the point.. that doesn't ...more

Oh ya.. and by the way.. add in another million for each section of land needed to start a farm.. and I'll guarantee you, if you don't have 2.5 sections of land to start with you're gonna have a hard time making ends meet..

Oh please....you are subject to capital gains when you SELL...not when you make investments in a business....all of your examples can either be written down to lower your annual profit/tax....or can be used to increase your ACB, lowering your eventual capital gain. https://www.canada.ca/en/revenue-agency/services/tax/individuals/topics/about-your-tax-return/tax-return/completing-a-tax-return ...more

Nice backpeddling packer.. I didn't say anything about "not paying taxes" you're the one whining about people willing to go out on a limb and investing in businesses or farms or being "professionals" getting a tax break for creating jobs and risking capital.. did that go over your head..??  Talk about getting your blood pressure up.. stick to the facts/topic man..
Comment by packerdriver on Jun 25, 2024 4:45pm
Moe, I'm not whining about people getting a tax break...I'm just pointing that the break was increased from 1 million to 1.25 million.....that should offset the higher inclusion rate for THOUSANDS of small business owners. What's the beef? I don't got one. I'm fine with all of it.
Comment by tollycraft on Jun 25, 2024 4:18pm
Well said. Fact, small business countributes more taxes to this government in this country waaaaay  more than all the largest companies combined.  If anyone doubts that, just drive through any town anywhere in Canada and start counting restaurants, gas stations, retail stores including malls, service busnesses, and small manufacturers.  GLTA, Tollycraft

Packer.   Writing down assets is a strategy to lowered your taxes on profits/income.   What if there are no profits and poor farmer Joe just wants to quit after working his whole life.  Most farmers equity is all they really have to fall back on for retirement.  Same can be said for large portion of business and landlords here these days.  Here comes libtards now ...more

If your business requires a few million dollars in cap ex let's agree that we are not talking about some hayseed with a horse, a pitchfork and 4 shoeless kids to feed, ok? that was the reason for gst in the first place.  Pay tax on consumption.  People with more money spend more therefore pay more taxes.  Of course raising taxes on everyone is fairer than discriminating against small business owners.  It's people that rely on the vast majority of government services like healthcare for just one example.   these liberal cowards just ...more

So we worked all this year so far just to pay taxes.  Next year we will likely surpass 50%.   But thats ok with Packer at lease he is happy about it.  He don't care until when 60 or 70%.  I wonder what freedom day will be next year after this capital gains changes are factored in.  Maybe July some time ...more

Government deficits are a result of successive governments (conservative too, but mostly liberal) announcing billions upon billions of new program spending in order to buy an election.  That there is the problem with a system where fiscal accountability is an afterthought at best.  Just wait  for another huge promise to increase child benefits in exchange for your vote.  Should ...more
