Get the picture , you asked a very valid question and there were 4 replies , 3 off topic SH supporters , maybe 2 and only one removed for actually giving a reason , that was removed for off topic not 2 others completely off topic as well. I will comment on VRN not that it will make any difference as CM is on a roll today removing 3 of mine .Personally , l lost faith in both VRN and VET when both with similar dividends cut them to zero or near enough.Over half a decade later neither are a shadow of their precut Divy SP. I like some can probably remember when every Street Fund Mgr pounded the table about VRN , ex CPG stating categorically that it should be in every investors portfolio.Ever hear one of them ever say sorry or we were wrong.Nope and you never will as investors prepared to pay them for mistakes have short memories and apologises are bad for business. You can change mgmt and a name but unfortunately it is just the same old same old.Just look at some of the moves others in the sector have made or even if not much better a dividend that VRN  SP would have to go up by 5% or more just to break even. The promises of tomorrow have been going on for years but it's always the same , Next Month.

Agree.  I remember back 6 or 7 years ago tuning into an episode on BNN. An elderly woman called in to ask about prospects of CPG. Her story was that she was a retired widow and had been talked into buying CPG by a financial advisor. She had lost most of her principal and was no longer receiving a meaningful dividend. She was distraught and didn't know what to do or how to even exit the ...more

Yup and during the Trump years the share price fell from a high of ~ $22 to ~$2 during his tenure.. god help us if he gets in again..!!  His drill baby drill mantra will be the death toll for the industry again if the CEO's don't stick to their discipline of returning $$ to the shareholders..

Cenovus's chart is even more telling about who is/was better for the industry..!! Biden by a LONG SHOT..!

Now lets compare a US producer in the same time frames.. Exon  Although the share price was slowly moving up through Trump's tenure, that drill baby drill strategy pissed off the Saudi's so much that they went to a  commodity war in early 2020 to counter the loss of market and crush the shale producers.. many in the US went bankrupt when this happened and it nearly crushed the ...more

Like we see just after some comments about oil  from Trump last week the oil price  did react negatively, from $83  to $77-78. I am concern what the future will show.

Marty I had to laugh out loud the other night when President Trump said in his speech at the RNC that on the first day of his Presidency he would elimate the stupid EV mandates and men competing against women in sports. I laughed because I know Trudy would of been watching and just witnessed two of his favorite woke asinine notions grow wings and fly out the window. Trump. My kind of dude.

Harris ahead of Trump in polls... you made me snort my gin and tonic. LOL!  Do you also believe that it was a lone gunman and Biden pulled out because of covid?  How is anyone with half a brain still believing anything legacy media says?

Excuse me, Moe, but you're rewriting/inventing history..... The dip in 2014-15 was a result of US production going from 8 mbpd to 12 mbpd because of fracking....hundreds of US oil comapnies eventually went bankrupt. Multinationals sold their oil sands assets and left the country. Canadian producers picked up those assets for a fraction of what it had cost to build them. A big win! The dip is ...more

Packer.. if you would have followed the thread, my comments were about who was better for the industry during their tenure Trump or Biden..  In case you didn't notice Trump was in power from 2016 to 2020 Biden has been in power from 2020 to now.. thus the chart proves my point..  Yes covid was instrumental as well.. but that was along with the price war OPEC had started and got out ...more
