And it's exactly this kind of thinking that leads to losses. "Something going on with oil?" Like what exactly? The oil market is insanely complex in everyway... I'm reading many are expecting oil to boom after the US election, stating Israel will be free to attack Iran and their oil infrastructure...  but regardless who wins next week, both parties don't want high oil ...more

Not sure if you understand my statement,.. take a look at oil price now.

Oh, the WTI jump at around 2pm you meant? Sorry i misunderstood. Seems to be headline related as usual, then the algos kick in, but doesn't look material to me anyways (on the headline that Iran is planning to retaliate against Israel soon)... Especially now Iran is naked as their air defenses have been recently taken out by Israel... Why would they give Israel the excuse to go harder WITHOUT ...more

Umm, before the US election next Tuesday? LOL I, IMO , would not count on it. In the event something unplanned happens, they'll use the SPR to subdue prices fast, OPEC spare capacity will be unleashed, etc. No way it will be sustained in this global economic state...
Comment by VeritasVern on Oct 31, 2024 5:55pm
Worst case scenario they use the SPR to moderate price spikes, but highly unlikely as that is too political, and takes a significant amount of time to move the physical supplies to market. What now seems the method of choice, which is mostly opaque, thereby avoids detection is to short the oil financial markets and control the narrative. You know like when Israel bombed Iran last week but it was ...more

Because it is for the internal market consumption purposes.  They control enough messaging that domestic population and messaging is the  priority.

With US and Canada beeing the major producers and exporters (20% of world maket give or take) the benefits are obvious for higher oil prices for those thwo G7 economies.  So yeah higher crude prices are a win for the west.  This is not the same dynamic as back in the day of the 70's OPEC oild crisis.
