get out while you still can

Does anybody remember an old TSX darling from a decade ago?  Remember how all the analysts said that you had to buy Nortel. It went to zero.  I see similarities with Valeint...all the analysts said must buy it.  The first warning sign was when it dropped from over $300 to $200 and then under $100.  But the baggies already lost over 50%.....so they were fearful to sell. Baggies hold on tight and away it fell further to under $30. Now some bagholders that bought at the top have lost about 90%. Many brown pants hit the washing machines. It recently deadcat bounced from about $30 to mid $40s and the hopeful bagggies prayed for more upside. I will let you in on what the share price will be in about two years or so.  $300....no lower ....$200 .... no lower ....$100... no lower .... $50..... no lower .......$20......no lower.....$10 no lower.......GULP.......$0. That's right, it will be zero in a couple of years.  A few baggies might bail, but most bagholders will hold to the end.  Remember, I told you so.

Laffina, with all due respect, your comment is not an analysis. There are no financial similarities between nortel and valeant.
Comment by laffinatbaggies on Apr 26, 2016 1:01pm
You say no similarities.....ok.  Nortels first warning was they were late with there 10-K filings. Surprise, surprise so is this company. Filing late is always the first sign that a company probably has some shady accounting going on. If this company survives and Clinton wins the election, companies like this one are screwed. She specifically said she is coming after Val. But let me guess you ...more

I bought biovail in 2007 for 8$, which became valeant. I sold valeant on its way down around 300$. I am currently long valeant at 47.02$ Your attitude is irrespectful. You've been a member since yesterday and already ignored by 4 people. Now five.

LOL.  How long somebody has been a member is irrelevant. I was on here five years ago and lost my username so I started with a new one.  I am sure lots of members who have been here for years are of the bagholder mentality and constantly lose money.  The baggies point their finger at the markets and everyone else for their losses instead of looking in the mirror.  Also, couldn& ...more

lol.  The baggies are angry they are losing money.  I hadn't used the stockhouse account or the email account linked to it for 5 years. If I can't get into that email....how could the forget password step work when I cant get into that email anymore? Nice try mental midget.  Let's play fish. I shorted this stock over $300 and covered for an average in the $40s.  I ...more

That's not true at all. You're just making stuff up. Nortel's market capitalization fell from C$398 billion in September 2000 to less than C$5 billion in August 2002. Nortel announced they would restate earnings in Oct 2003. The company was on its last legs long before the accounting issues came to light.

Keep drinking the koolaid.  This company has lost over 85% market capitalization in the last year and there are accounting issues, but this time is different......ok. As for Nortel, not making it up. I knew a few people who worked there. There were questions about a lot of thingsback in 1999/ 2000 including the accounting and filings.. Not just in 2003 like you have stated. Did you get burned ...more

I didn't get burned on Nortel or Valeant. I'm a value investor :) That US aging committee is a joke. Now they say they weren't provided with analyst reports???? How much are they paying these people. We all know that Valeant acquired drugs they thought were under priced and hiked the prices. That was their model, and it wasn't illegal. So what are they doing? Seems like a big ...more

Difference of opinions is what makes the markets actually work.  We can agree to disagree. Nortel spokespeople were saying everything was fine also. Just curious...what is average price you paid?  I assume you are down.
Comment by wallop13 on Apr 26, 2016 3:27pm
Just under 44 CAD. So I'm up about 4%.

Sorry for the bad news. The stock is now under $29 so you are down about 35%. You mentioned you are a value investor. Yikes, I guess that is the new name for bagholder. Value investing doesn't seem like a profitable trading method.

That was a result of the telecom bubble. In the late 1990s, stock market speculators, hoping that Nortel would reap increasingly lucrative profits from the sale of fibre optic network gear, began pushing up the company's share price to unheard-of levels despite the company's repeated failure to turn a profit.  It's not the same at all. This is a drug company with ...more

You say no similarities. I guess we will agree to disagree. They are in different sectors for sure. But both were hyped as stock market darlings at one point. They both were extremely overvalued. Both were/are being questioned about accounting irregularities. Anytime a company is in the news for "irregularities" the signs are there that something stinks. This company has been pushed to ...more
