BC whining about high gasoline is hilarious!

2.34 a litre in Vancouver!   Horgan wants to blame it on Putin but this is exactly what he and the people of BC have asked for.

One energy expert told CTV News earlier this month there’s another major factor at play.

"The main cause for this is refineries," said Vijay Muralidharan, senior analyst for Kalibrate Canada.

"Summer driving season (in the U.S.) … de facto means that refineries are going to charge a premium to produce gasoline."

A carbon tax increase also took effect in B.C. in April, bringing that tax up to 11 cents.

McTeague believes this is also an issue created by Canadians.

“At the core of all this is our willingness in this country to fool around with energy availability,” he said. “We've cut pipelines off, we've decided to hem ourselves in with regulations on refineries. We've imposed significant, punitive taxes on consumers. Is it any wonder that this is happening?”

Your right ?  America not long ago decided to become energy efficient , they woke up to the fact that oil produced in Saudi Arabia , and sold here means all the money Goes to the Middle East , the jobs go to the Middle East.      We should be self sustaining , those refineries I am sure they are excellent paying jobs. Build more !   produce the oil - jobs stay here ...more

Agree - and - disagree. Better to keep the jobs in canada - yes - be self sufficient - yes ! O&G is not going away as soon as some thought, and others hoped, which is why my money is here now BUT... I am interested in the transition plan for current O&G producers. We will never be out of oil but as time rolls combustion engines will wane - plastics? Probably not so much. What is the ...more

I've read a lot about EVs and my professional background is such that I've done a lot of options analysis and business cases in my day. I've never seen a true apples to apples comparison of EVs versus ICE that legitimately examines full life cycle CO2 or Total Cost of Ownership once ownership has to replace fuel taxes used to build and maintain roads. Every single comparison I've ...more

The intellectual dishonesty from gov'ts both here and the US is astounding.   They insist on blaming every one else but themselves for the high energy costs that we are now saddled with.  Its the Russians,  its the price gouging by the oil companies,  its the  Saudis who refuse to pump more,  its people who drive too much,  its people who are not flocking in ...more

Excellant points.  Our government has not offered up one solution to curb the gas prices as its easier to lay the blame on everyone else.  Yup, with the increase in prices their making a kiliing, nothing invested, no risk, just find more ways to p..ss more money away. God forbid they reduce the tax.  The way I see it, with the increase at the pumps over the last month or two they ...more

8 thumbs up says it all !!  So right on the money.  I want to  add to this.  I would love to use some F bombs. But Can't !!    But everyone regarding energy in particular makes a stance that is black or white.  Heaven for ffffff sakes if someone could have the balls to have a solution that is creative.  No one wants to loose there job.  This is why ...more
