Sometimes we overlook the

historical context of today's Canadian E&P sector. Particularly, we don't often mention the magnitude of the pivot by E&P companies away from searching for more oil fields to giving almost all the new cash earnings back to shareholders. This is not cyclical. The scale of FFF returning to shareholders is unprecedented. It does not matter who you listen to, they have never seen this in their lifetimes. These are epic times for Canadian Oil&Gas shareholders. " Uncharted " as Grant F. said.

And yet investors dont seem to care .I'm here to make money on capital appreciation of our shares . I'm not here for the dividends or buybacks or special dividends . I'm here because these companies are worth double or triple what theyre trading for and yet here we are.  If these were tech companies at their height WCP would be a $ 100 stock today.  Stupid money, stupid ...more

However, this forum is open to folks who may be looking for something other than capital appreciation exclusively. We are seniors in our mid and late 70's.  While we like and enjoy capital appreciation we ...more

Good for you too Pierre . Im good, you're good.  We are all good. I can tell you're a senior by your demeanour .   Easily annoyed , easily offended .  I never questioned who this forum is open to. LOL . If I needed snide remarks I'd get married.

Not much difference between you saying you're "not here for the dividends or buybacks or special dividends" and Pierre saying he and others may be "looking for something other than capital appreciation exclusively"

Couldnt agree more Pierre.  I too am a senior, owned my own company for 30 years, no pension there. Living on. CPP, Old Age Security ,savings, mutual funds and RRSP draws keeps me comfortable.  The dividends are a bonus for me and owning shares in a company that I can sell anytime I'm feeling is right works quite well for me.  Im not in energy for the long haul.

Same here Tollycraft. I keep  core position and trade in and out with the rest as the market dictates.  The dividend works for me because often I get my timing wrong and need to hold longer with my trading position.

I get that.  I've been on a steak with bad timing.  LOL Good luck. GLTA

tollycraft write ".... and RRSP draws keeps me comfortable." You are still a young man. By the time you reach 71 RRSP are no longer available.  You need to transfer the funds to RRIF where minimum annual withdrawals are required. My wife and I were in the same boat.  Since you do not have an employer's pension, I strongly suggest you convert some (or all) RRSP into a RRIF ...more

. Good advise pierre.  I closed down my business when I turned 65 but only started drawing on my investments at 67.  Yes, we did convert our RRSP's into RRIF's  (just used to saying RRSP's) or should I say our investor did prior to any draws, and yes we did the pension split as well, all good advise, thank you. I continue to try to ignore the everyday ups and downs of ...more

"... I own a little GXE but may be looking at changing to Athabaska instead..." 2022 was a "good year" for investing in Canadian energy producers and I expect 2023 and 2024 to be profitable as well.  A recession later this year should not have a major effect to our total returns. The key to me has always been diversification.  Currently "energy" stocks ...more
