Sorry, I shouldn't have said "no one" in the west uses heating oil, but you are definitely in the tiny minority.
Just curious, have you looked into heat pumps? I wouldn't think you would need a very large one on the island? I just put one in my garage, and it was only $3000.

Does BC not have subsidies for installing a heat pump?

I had a heat pump tyler at our previous home with a back up electric furnace. I prefer the heat from an oil fired furnace much more then a heat pump, instant heat and way more cosier. I found heat pumps weren’t all that efficient with colder temps. I may switch back to a heat pump eventually but I’m afraid once most have made the switch our B.C government will raise the Hydro rates again, after ...more

Thanks for the response. Yes, I agree that oil heat simply feels a lot warmer than what a heat pump puts out. And true, heating oil might be high now, but could also drop again. Does hydro ever do anything but go up? And once we get Pierre in the PM's office, the carbon tax will be gone.
