Free money on a depressing day.

I switched all accounts  from TD to Scotiabank 6 months ago. They give free cash depending on how much you transfer.  I just got 2900.00 deposited today.    And I feel Scotia is better than TD anyways. I highly recommend it.  The promotion is still happening I think.

Are the trading fees the same? I thought Scotia fees were double that of TD...... I'm currently at CIBC and thinking about moving

I got 5 $ a trade for 6 months.  Now back up to 10$.   That's part of thier promo
Comment by DivChase on Aug 01, 2024 5:08pm
Make sure you enter thier promo code on your online application , whatever that is now.  Or you won't get the money.

Hey thanks for the heads up.  Going to have a little chat with TD........I'm going to be talking and they better be listening

Let us know how it goes with TD.  I asked them to match the offer or they loose my 2mil.  They didn't give 2 sheets.  Didn't even offer me a coffee. Lol
Comment by meritmat on Aug 02, 2024 11:50pm
Yup. I sat down and had a chat with them.  Somebody suppose to call next week to go over some stuff but I'm not holding my breath  Also The girl told me TD is running the same program that CIBC is...that's when I got upset.  Told them it's just a computer program I get zero perks out of it.  Heck I still have to pay to get checks made up. Something tells me if I ...more

Not surprised!  Scotia iTRADE really wants the business.   TD is a monstrosity that only listens to the top 10 traders in the country.  My $2m meant less to them than the average person walking in to pay thier phone bill the old fashioned way with pennies, and in the business line.  This happened every time I went there which is why started shopping banks and found Scotiabank ...more

Just trying to being helpful - I am not a bank planner - but BMO is offering some pretty good incentives on what they consider 'new money' in 'newly opened accounts' based on putting $$ in by August 31 and keeping it thtere till at least Feb. 28. Might be worth a look. Just for your info in case it is helpful. TD12

I got a feeling all the big banks are doing the same.  Only good thing about TD is the local branch is 15 mins away.  CIBC is 50 mins.  I might check out Alberta Treasure branch to see if they offer anything
Comment by Davesnothere on Aug 03, 2024 7:41pm
Did just that with BMO. Safety stash. For now.
Comment by DivChase on Aug 04, 2024 10:01am
Looks the same as Scotiabank promo except Scotia cuts the trade fees in 1/2 for 6 months for me. With way better than TD.   HELL I MIGHT SWITCH TO BMO now to make another 2900.00.   The way the markets are these days this appears the only way to make any money!
Comment by DivChase on Aug 04, 2024 10:11am
Hey Davesnothere!  I just read terms and conditions on the BMO offer.  It reads like you are eligible for only one account per client.  I opened 5 accounts at Scotiabank and they summed all together for the qualifying amount.   Did you have more than one investment account and did they add them together for the qualifying amount??  Scotia iTRADE added all together for ...more

I talked to 2 separate people at BMO and only one(largest) account will be counted toward qualifying amount.  So I'd say most people have monies spread across several accounts (cash, tfsa ,rrsp, rdsp), Scotiabank is the way to go.  Plus thier trade fees are 5$ for several months.   I already got the Scotia bank money since I switched to them in dec/jan.  So I think even ...more

Smart  Think I looked at the fine print at BMO and your waiting till 2025 to get your free cash
Comment by DivChase on Aug 05, 2024 6:23pm
Yes. You must maintain the deposits for that period.  I opened Scotia iTRADE accounts 7 months ago. Just got paid.  Now I might take my business account and largest personal account to BMO. FREE money, why the heck not.  If Royal has a similar offer next year, I'm off to Royal then. Then CIBC.  I'll take whatever they give me. Hell I might end up right back where I ...more

Nice.  Only thing I do t like is your account is froze for a few months till it's transferred.  At least that's what I thought
Comment by DivChase on Aug 05, 2024 10:53pm
It's not froze in the sense that you can still trade as much as you like.   Value will change daily of course.   You can also take money out of the accounts if you like.  The qualifying amount will just go down and so will your cash back.
