FRIENDS IN HIGH PLACES

So I have two good friends who work for two different established dispensaries. In the past week I've had good conversations with both. A couple of things worth noting. 1) Both were noting a decrease in overall daily sales. Both said it wasn't due to competition, at least in their area. Both attribute the decline to overall inflation..... people just don't have the same discretionary dollars. I asked both about the recent spike in gas and both anticipate this will make the situation worse. People need gas and groceries before Weed. So on that thought, while there may be some "recession-proof" thought to the industry, it is definitely not inflation-proof. Adding to that end, both noted people were buying cheaper products, that don't have the same profit margins. This is bad news for the industry as a whole, already having a race to the bottom on price, and particularly bad for Canopy, who is now putting their focus on the craft end of things when the market is moving to the budget end. Additionally, Tokyo Smoke prices are already 10-15% higher than competitors on the exact same products, so they will be hit even harder with consumers going very budget conscious. All of this does NOT bode well for Canopy's next quarter.

id rather eat rice and keep smoking weed. But thats just me. I might have to agree with you on this one. Inflation will start taking a toll on peoples freedom to do other things that just arent neccessary. And even though im a canopy investor i dont go to tokyo smoke , i go to value buds and get an ounce for 130. Too cheap and good not too, even when my buddy sells 180 ounces to me as a favour ...more

I think places like Value Buds will benefit. People will walk from Tokyo Smoke as it is already overpriced. People don't care about a pretty store. The other unknown is how many people will start switching back to black market to save some dollars. It might not be their first choice, but people will do whatever they have to, to lessen the impact of this wild inflation and now stratospheric gas ...more

Does anyone know what percent are actually smoking buds still vs vapes, concentrates, drinks and edibles instead?  I would think the mass population don't have smokers lungs to smoke pre-rolls without gagging. I don't think the black market has these, then who wants to meet a dealer in the back alley to get a bag of weed.

Annectdotally, there has been a shift to 2.0 products from flower, but beverages on the whole have remained very disappointing.. This actually isn't good newsfor the LP's as the 2.0 products have a very low profit margin.

But these attract more of the general mass population, as opposed to the traditional hippy bud smoker which are few in number.

I agree uncle jack papi, they claim to be all powerful with their network but it's just a bunch of mistake making freedom convoy folks. More quantity than quality. Now here we are first claiming to be powerful now a bunch of sorry saps who can't take the fyre

i dont think black market is as big in the cities as you think. Maybe in antigonish nova scotia where you got some buddies that grow it in the boat barn but I can get an ounce for cheaper from value buds than one of my best buddies, business is business. I certainly have noticed ive been buying more vape cartridges lately, there quick, easy, last long. And i dont get bit ched at by my gf because ...more

What about quality of weed Value Buds might have vs your friend vs an LP vs a small craft operation? A friend who grows his own in the back yard claims it's all exactly the same, which I have a hard time believing.  Opinion?

All dispensaries get the exact same product from the OCS which, bizarre as it sounds, also competes with the dispensaries they provide. So in this sense, there is absolutely no differentiation from one dispensary to another. That being said, the dispensaries try and do their own differentiation. For example, Value Buds has the best prices, but operate on razor thin margins. Tokyo goes for pretty ...more

Any other thoughts or will Starsearch get the final answer and assumed to be right again??

I think there must either be a Clown Convention today, or they all got together and are drowning the sorrow of their losses as we speak. The funny thing is, they've actually upped their game saying nothing at all, rather than show themselves as the morons they are by posting irrelevant drivel. Whatever the case, don't expect them to respond with any intelligent rebuttal.

The clowns have been honking their horns in the little red car in the center ring at the Acerage Holdings tent. Lots of Candy being tossed come get yours.

ive never seen someone smoke weed from in their own backyard for more than 2 weeks. Then they beg to give it away. Its all trash even if you buy a good plant. One nieghbour has a male and all the plants are screwed. But ya my buddies weed is good. Back 40 animal mints is good. Good buds nice and trimmed. Not a 60 dollar difference. Though. And i always gotta wait for him to be home

What is the difference with your buddies weed vs backyard growing - just trim? But you make a point about conveniece, stores are always open vs waiting on someone and having to meet them while looking over your shoulder.
Comment by Cmc888 on Mar 11, 2022 10:32am
my buddy gets it from someone who gets it from out in bc. So im guessin some crooked organization but its just a way more pro operation than someone just letting it grow in their yard. Ya simple things like using a machine to trim Idk if anyone here has actually ever done it , but trimming weed with scissors is god damn brutal. You get frustrated then start doing a terrible job, and the weed just ...more

So the product is not so standardized - indoor vs outdoor cultivation, lighting, moisture, ripeness, trimming, freshness all matter. Then proper processing and extraction into 2.0 products is also a factor.  Then medical strains vs recreational.

And for anyone who doesn't think this is now a harsh reality, look no further than places like Dollarama, which do well in tough times. The pot industry hasn't been around long enough to have him through difficult economic times, as if they weren't struggling already. There were always going to be winners and losers. A freakish economy will only speed up the process. Unfortunately, it ...more
