K and S

Would be smart to buyout WPX. It would force a bigger bid from POT and they would end up with both. The value of the water supply alone in these times puts $ on WPX. I am surprised this is not an offer of $80 mill. to finance rather than an agreement leading to 51%. Are we missing something here? If the idea is to create a bidding war like Vancouver real estate then why risk giving up control for $80 mill. At the price of potash $315 solution mining is a threat to POT and an cheaper option for Rio or Vale hence POT move on K and S. It will be an interesting 2 months to see if this works out. GLTA.

We are all wondering why the financing didn't come in the form of a loan. 80M is surely in the form of debt. We'll never know :)

The only reason I can think of is to stimulate a reaction leading to takeover bids based on the fact that POT et al would not want the Chinese taking this on and using it as price leverage. WPX still has money to wait this out some and slowly the price of potash has been going up. The best part I read and posted here " that new conventional mining does not get profitable until $500 +. I agree. Furthermore - it doesn't matter what happens in 60 days. POT, Agrium, K&S, Rio, and Vale may wait this out hoping the government or current shareholders vote this down. However, this isn't a sure thing and after Aug. 30th it will only get more expensive potentially priceless since the Chinese know their own markets. The issue will be if (and only if after Aug. 30th) an ...more

$$$ is no problem for the Chinese. In fact, China is awash with $$$$$$$$. What they want are natural resources. If the Harper Govt. gives the green light to 100% foreign ownership, WPX would be gobbled up in a jiffy.

This enfirces action: the later POT buys K+S the cheaper it will be; the faster POT buys Western Potash the cheaper it will be, too. Believe me, there is no such thing as a free lunch from Pat 'the Cooky' Vara! You don't believe me? Call UBS;-) Btw, I believe the Chinese knew about the POT bid for K+S since months and they played out their cards very well. They could get help from ...more
