Yes, but what is going on in the Newmont boardroom today? Can hardly imagine. Were they blind-sided? Were they in the know? How will they react? Or is it ONE PIECE in a bigger picture?

This certainly is one piece of the puzzle.  The remaining questions are whether or not the end game is a JV amongst majors or if it isn't how many besides NEM and RIO will take a seat at the table once any bidding for Casino begins. If NEM isn't comfortable with a sizable copper project, we could be leaning towards a JV from their perspective.  That being said, if the updated ...more

Paul stated on the call his belief that Rio's job is to "add Copper to their portfolio". Note nothing about Gold. That to me means Gold would be going elsewhere but just reading between the lines... since Casino about 50% gold....have to draw some conclusion

Well the way that would work I suppose is Rio buys us outright and does some major streaming deals for the gold to finance it. Still think that at the end of the day we get an offer that's fair....cash would be my preference and nothing less than $6 per share. Don't want to own Rio stock....cash on the barrel head is fine.

Why cash?  You want to pay capital gains right now?  Stock swaps give investors the choice at when to sell.  If you haven't noticed US investors are potentially on the verge of getting screwed by Democrat proposals to do away with long term capital gains and to tax them at ordinary income rates (i.e. short term cap gains rates).
