Tom Palmer and The Newmonts

In 2014, Tom Palmer jumped ship from Rio Tinto to Newmont

February, 2019, Rob Atkinson jumps ship from Rio Tinto to join ship at Newmont (appointed Executive Vice President, Operations)

In 2020, Rio tried to lure Palmer back, but he refused.

In April 2020, Mark Rodgers left Rio Tinto as General Manager Operations at Pilbara to join Newmont as Senior Vice President North America:

The decision to approve the Coffee gold project provides much-needed certainty about the future of the project and the development of this strategic asset,” Mark Rodgers, regional senior VP of Newmont North America, said in a statement.

Note the use of the adjective "strategic". This was very deliberate wording; otherwise, another adjective would have been chosen.

July 1, 2022, Peter Toth takes on his new position at Newmont as Executive Vice President, Strategic Development

Peter brings a wealth of global commodity experience that will benefit Newmont as we enter our next 100 years as the world’s leading gold company. Peter’s extensive background in corporate, operational and sustainability strategy will ensure we deliver our purpose of creating value and improving lives through sustainable, responsible mining.”
            Tom Palmer, President, Newmont

Observations:

- Palmer is gutting Rio Tinto of highly skilled top management people who prefer to work for him

-       Newmont is prioritizing Coffee which can only have meaning when packaged together with Casino

Now off to the races!!!!

All of these new recruits were personally selected by Palmer and they are more than happy to work with their former colleague. Sign of a good leader. Also, look at the way Palmer is orchestrating things and playing his cards. Something is in the works.

Hi EVEN STEVEN: Your observations are OUTSTANDING!  Here are a few more items that may relate to your/our vision for NEM and WRN. 1.  The NEM Headquarters are in Colorado while the RIO Headquarters are in Australia!  There must be advantages for being so close to WRN... 2.  The recently formed NEM Internatiobal Center for Indiginous Mine Employess established by Tom Palmer ...more

All good observations, Pappy! Newmont has certainly prioritized Coffee over a few other projects. This can only mean interest in Casino to me, especially with the comment "strategic asset". My personal preference is that we go to Newmont, not Rio Tinto. Newmont has much more credibility for ESGs, FN's relations, and reclamation after a project is finished. In other words, Newmont has ...more
