Meaningless
See? 28k shares on close is nothing. Not sure why we keep wondering about these 5 figure last minute trades.
Last buyout I was part of was Mason Resources, development stage company in USA, Paul's mentioned them before re sector M&A.
Day that buyout was announced, it traded 3x normal daily volume on TSX, and 30 times normal volume on AMEX all in the last 3 minutes. For Western, that'd equate to up to 4.5 million shares in the closing minutes.
Show me that volume at close, and then I'll think we're about to announce something meaningful.

I've never had stock in a company that was bought out, so this is good information...thanks jclark. Curious to know if anyone else on this board has been part of a buyout and if they saw the same kind of volume at the end of the day prior to the announcement similar to jclark's example above.

I was a lucky investor in the western silver/penasquito buy out by glamis. volume and share prices spiked. my shares went from .98/share to $28/share in one year. granted, maybe i was lucky.
