Quote of the day (this one is for Sooner)

"The stock market is a device for transferring money from the impatient to the patient."

Any rushed sale of Casino will cost us dearly.
Any rushed sale of Casino removes all our leverage.

For those who are impatient, try swing trading the movements whilst you wait for a buyout.  You can also research other names which may have more upside if you want to widen your net so to speak.

Heywood  When you say, "The stock market is a device for transferring money from the impatient to the patient." "Any rushed sale of Casino will cost us dearly". "Any rushed sale of Casino removes all our leverage." I don't think so,   After bring in Rio and Mitsubishi Materials, Paul created this situation that we find are selves ...more

Marine, I think you need to give Paul a bit more credit on the negotiating front.  We all know we won't be able to sell a dollar of NPV at full face value, but no way does the BoD sell out at 15 cents on the dollar which is what  your $5 CDN is based upon current market values of the NPV profile. That's really how Paul and company have to negotiate:  how much is $1 worth to ...more

I repeat for the hundredth time....juniors sell for 30-40% on NPV as the general rule....not for anything close to 100% and not anything close to 100% at spot prices. yes...you can show me the exception...of which for each of those I can show you 5 that are in line with the general rule. I have no idea how you come up with 15% NPV being $5 cad....it's more like $2 cad. Look at WRN Corp ...more

This is where you go all wonky eyed Sooner.  There is a headline NPV in the FS that is based on average SPOT prices at the time of publication.  But the smart investor goes and looks at the TABLE for ballparking NPV at different spot prices.  You are only somewhat right in that you state we will get roughly 40% of some reasonable valuation.  So, nope, we are not likely to get ...more

Quite correct, MM.  Additionally, it's possible if one myopically looks at the FS for Casino (for some back of the envelope valuation of WRN), what can be missed is that ithe FS only covers 1/3 of the deposit..  I don't think anyone would suggest the remaining 2/3 would be thrown in for free.  Finally, if Paul and the board sell all of Western, I don't think the rest of ...more

I've already sent my feedback to Paul---but I'd imagine he could care less. My opinion and everyone on this board opinion is absolutely meaningless until something is out up for a vote. In addition, WRN has paid professionals to run the numbers on what our "fair value" is. Paul wouldn't share that with me! Regardless, TRQ had their people run the numbers and Rio people ran ...more

If it goes up for vote, I hope there is enough of us to vote down any $6 offer. Sooner, are you aware of what we are sitting on? The Buffet quote was spot on. Could have been Becker and Fagan "Reeling in the Years".
Comment by Sooner on Jun 08, 2023 4:28pm
Well....I'm aware that's why i'm invested....but evidentily after many many many years of promoting what we have to try to convince others....it seems very few others are aware. Perhaps, just perhaps, many of us have drank the cool aid and have fallen in love with WRN and have blinders on....

Hi Sooner, here are some figures to mull over....... Agreed that you can't take current spot (high or low end) as markets fluctuate daily.  But, if we are in an environment of say $2,200 gold, parties might split the difference between a base case of $1,800 and $2,200 and call it an even $2k.  Hey, that is basically the price that Paul was using for his $5 billion NPV the other day. ...more

Huh?  You are the one that firmly stands on the offering being a premium to recent share price.  I'm the one that's been beating the drum of discount to negotiated NPV (admittedly with your head) forever.  Glad to see you have somewhat come to your senses though.  Now, if you can simply understand that the negotiated price isn't necessarily going to be the headline ...more

Well...it seems generally the 2 are closer together (ie a 40% premium to current market cap is close to 40% NPV).  In our case...there's a big gap. Why is that???? I suppose no one believes a deal imminent....
