Western Copper and Gold Corp > I like Paul…

I like Paul…

I really do.  I think he a great guy and knows his technical stuff.  I think he is incredible with his community relations.  But....I can't believe that Dale made him CEO and kept them there (before he left the board) with his complete and utter inability/unwillingness to do what is needed to drive the market cap higher.  I can't believe the current board keeps him there for the same reason.  But Dale did and they do.  So the real question is "Why?".  Why are they OK with it?  Why don't they expect more?  There is an answer as to "Why?" And that answer tells us what is going on and what to expect.  I just don't know where to get that answer.

I believe Dale is still working in the background,, made the deal with Rio !   VANCOUVER, B.C. Western Copper and Gold Corporation (“Western” or the “Company”) (TSX: WRN; NYSE American: WRN) announces that Dale Corman, Founder of Western Copper and Gold and Executive Chairman of the Company’s Board of Directors, has informed the Board that he will retire as of June 30, 2021. The long ...more

You think Dale (Rio only has a few check boxes to complete due diligence) made the deal with Rio before he retired? Highly unlikely that Dale (i expect Rio to present an offer way before deadline) has any clue what Rio was thinking at that time or now! He was utterly way out of touch with reality at the time...that much is clear.

If you've watched the recent few interviews with Paul, you will note that he is now focusing on the current metals price environment (which will only continue to move upwards) when discussing the NPV of the Casino project.  $5B at today's prices. He admits there is a price disconnect, but this is likely due to the traders acknowledging that an offer may be at least a year away (dead ...more

Heywood: Thanks for painting the "big picture" in a positive light!  I appreciate your wisdom and intelligence as a seasoned investor. Pappy

Interesting thought experiment, Metal. Consider the basic caricature of Casino: "OMG you guys, this is an (1) uneconomic, (2) low grade (3) optionality play in the middle of nowhere with (4) $4b Capex. Pass." Paul's tried fixing stupid: 1.Any project with NPV $1 is technically economic, the real question is does the IRR match the operator's internal benchmark at their long ...more

Only way I see the SP moving up in the short term is the current drilling programme - the junior sector is in the toilet SP/price wise and I don't think Paul can say or do anything else (happy to be wrong) If Rio don't go ahead in November, we will have to progress permitting by ourselves ~3/4 years from Q1 next year? - and we will have about 20m to last us till then. In that period there ...more

How about this --- for Paul to highlight in his "selling" of Casino --- What is Rio's average cost of capital - I think around 10%. Wha tis Rio return on invested capital - i think it's 13%. Now what is Casino return ----- I think it's close to 20% ...and that incudes an 8% discount factor! I sure hope that if we work with RIo on another share placement (let's say 25M ...more

If you listened to the video posted, the YESAB submission is going to cost 20m so we might have 42m at the moment but 20m of that is spoken for...
Comment by Sooner on Aug 28, 2023 4:12pm
great....so we have $42M already....if Rio gets up to 20% thru another offering...that would get us up to about 185M shares and $84M cash. We should NOT need that much to get all the way thru permitted, etc.  Why let another $40M sit in bank with all the unnecessary share dilution???? Why not have much smaller cash position during negotiations ---- as i believe squeezing down share count ...more

Hi Sooner, if Paul even tried to buy back shares I am sure the backlash from RIO/Mitsubishi would not be to his liking.  If I paid X dollars to take a stake in a company and then the company subsequently started buying back shares at a discount to X dollars, I would feel like a chump being played by the company I invested in. I get that, all things being equal, when your share price is in ...more

Hey - most likely the price Rio would pay would be 10% premium to current share price. Let's call it $1.62 USD. Let's further say it would be 25M shares. Immediately after the announcement, what would the share price be? I'd say perhaps it would go up to somewhere around $1.70 a share (total guess)...point being is i doubt it would be LOWER than $1.62 a share ...but i suppose it could. ...more

RIO is the hand that is feeding us because they represent one half of the equation that Paul and the BoD are looking for:  competitors to bid up the value of Casino in the eventual negotiations.  I view Mitsubishi as a neutral party that is just along for the ride (copper by-product) as the gold is being mined.  Mitsubishi will work well as a pairing with either NEM or RIO as they ...more

Sorry to say this. Newmont is neither interest in us or Coffee. Newont is 100% focussed on Newcrest properties in Golden Triangle. Newmont will eventually sell off Coffee, IMHO. Kaminak and Goldcorp were all about proximity to Casino. Goldcorp overpaid for Coffee, Newmont inherited Goldcorp's headache. Don't rule out competitive tension. Just won't be Newmont. Hate to say that. Was ...more

Once gold revalues post-BRICS, I do believe that NEM will most definitely be interested. $5k is a conservative value for gold in this future environment.  I'm not certain how much gold is at their project in the Golden Triangle.  Add Coffee + Casino and you have 26mm ounces of gold?  How many projects globally have in excess of that amount? I get that that economics of Coffee ...more

Wonder how NEM is missing something so obvious as Gold To 5k Soon.  Right? Maybe someone should tell them.

Newmont now controls the Brucejackmine through the Newcrest deal. Their immediate neighbors only a few kilometers away are Sea (a junior) with 140 mil oz's and TUD with another 30's mil oz and growing. All close to roads a power. Im not to sure they that interested in the Yukon but you never know Grat

Neither NEM or any of the other gold producers are "missing" where gold is heading.  They, much like the day traders, only care to act with urgency once it becomes current reality. What does that mean right now?  Well, many think NEM won't be in the mix when it is all said and done.  No guarantees that they will, but my hunch is that it will be almost impossible to ...more

What are your thoughts about Freeport-Mcmoran becoming a potential bidder? They have a subsidiary in Climax that mines moly in Colorado and one of the best underground operations there in the world. Not sure how deep their pockets are, but they certainly have the know-how to operate the copper, gold, and moly aspects of this project.

"Key words from the recent interview:  Competitive Tension and $5B NPV..." That $5B NPV represents 1/3 of the deposit. What's the other 2/3 worth?
Comment by MetalMinded on Aug 28, 2023 2:33pm
All they do is what they've always done.  Go on some pod casts and say some of the same old tired things.  Paul and Sandy haven't tried anything new.  Waiting on any sort of announcement of anything other than they typical boring blah blah blah is like watching water evaporate.  Why not try something. New to drum up new interest in the project form new investors.   ...more
