Newmont

Why wouldn't Newmont want Casino?  I can't think of a reason.

Really? I can think of several:  1) Gold companies don't have the technical expertise to build a copper mine 2) No real interest in the Yukon. They inherited Coffee from Goldcorp, they can just as easily dispose of it. All outside appearnces has them more interested in BC. Apart from some quote like 3 years ago calling Coffee a strategic asset, has anyone seen any further progress with ...more

JC, I concur with all 4 reasons you rattled off. And a fifth reason is taking on Newcrest. In the short term, NEM does not have so much to float around. And what they do have needs to be focused on Newcrest assets. In hindsight, they were all eyes on the Golden Triangle. Not ruling out another party to counterbid. Just won't be NEM.

Definitely! It seems that with Non-disclosure-agreements also comes silence, no rumors and no volume.  It often seems, in many ways, we  gone above this wrong. There's probably a better fit than RIO and we are probably talking to them right now but who would know.  We may just have to hold-out wait for the copier cycle to mature. And the amount of gold we have is crazy ...more

Nondisclosure agreements don't benefit WRN shareholders. Think about it - who benefits from the secrecy? Only a potential acquiring company. If someone is aware of a significant benefit to shareholders, I'm all ears.

Ha Pinegrove Why wouldn't Rio want Casino ? They put up $21M for DD and an interested partner in MM for offtake. My last buyout did the same thing,, Eldorado 0wned over 10% and was interested for a long time and just when I thought it would never happen,, bingo a bought deal (buyout) was being negotiated, the rest was history !  I don't count Rio out, Nov 28th may come as a surprize ...more

Hey Marine, I'm not counting Rio out. Actually as you state, they've spent money and time on DD and as Paul says things are as good or better than stated. I am good with Rio taking WRN and hope it happens. I'd also like some competitive tension and thought Newmont could provide it. Appreciate other posters comments who for the most part disagree with me for the reasons they stated. I ...more

The way I look at it is the future value of Casino's gold far outpaces that of Casino's copper.  A gold company should be more interested than a copper company in the asset.  That being said, there are only a couple of gold companies who have the wherewithal to handle a project of Casino's size. But, then again, its not like there are dozens of copper companies out there ...more
