Rio just stringing Paul along as a cheep option on Casino. We better hope someone else takes an interest in this project. IMO  NO  big M&A's for Rio

Rio Tinto is focused on reshaping its portfolio with joint ventures rather than huge mergers and acquisitions, CEO Jakob Stausholm said on Wednesday.

“The last thing we need is very big M&A, because it’s very disruptive and it takes you off course,” Stausholm told a press briefing ahead of its investor day in Sydney.

Simandou is their big focus right now, in addition to OT and transitioning into underground for Kennecott. Bold Baatar did mention new greenfield projects. Extra $1 Billion factored into investing in new projects in 2026 (Peter Cunningham). But Jakob said they would be very disciplined in where they allocated the money.

M2, read this article on today's commute and looked forward to your posting this!  I've said it before, will say again: when Majors talk "Big M&A," they DO NOT MEAN little ol' Western Copper. Rather, they're saying, for example, we're not going to buy First Quantum, because that'll distract us, etc. Everyone breathe....

Agreed. Let's keep our perspective here. RIO's market cap sometimes fluctuates daily by more than the NPV of the Casino mine. WRN is not a large acquisition for them.

jciarke I hope your right,  Casino is not a First Quantum but Casino would be a $800m to $1B buyout and you add $3 to $4B to build,  your up to $4B to $5B in total costs to mine maybe another mining partner is needed ? As sooner has pointed out, how much De-Risking is Rio willing to take ? Paul should look for someone / another company to share the costs with Rio to develope Casino
