Casino/Resolution Comparison: Just Saying

Casino 4.27 billion pounds of copper (1.9 billion metric tons)

- copper deposit lies at depth of 600 feet

- still waiting for buy out from Rio Tinto/MM

Resolution 3.9 billion pounds of copper (1.787 billion metric tons)

- copper deposit lies at depth of 3,500 feet

- BHP bought from Magma Copper in 1996
(Rio entered joint venture agreement with BHP in 2001)

I think resolution is 40b lbs and estimated 1b lbs a year for 40 years. Advertised as 25% of US copper demand. Not sure if any gold, etc.  I think casino is 10b lbs copper and 20m ounce gold so let's just say resolution is double casino...but Rio only owns 1/2 of Resolution. agree...if we clear path to permitting and better infrastructure...it's a no brainer. One could also argue ...more

That's the ballpark Sooner, yes.  And again, sorry for belaboring the point, but Rio will begin to wind down Bingham Canyon after 2032... They've recently spent a little money to try to prolong production by moving underground but it's getting pretty obvious after a hundred plus years, it's getting played out.  When Rio has no production issues at the mine (they've ...more

Yes, Riotintoe, Bingham is approaching wind down stage. Just dug this up:  The Resolution copper deposit is not exposed at the surface, and lies a minimum of 3,300 feet below the surface.   The Magma Copper Company along with the Resolution copper deposit was acquired by BHP Copper, Inc. in 1996. Shortly thereafter, BHP closed operations at the Magma Mine, but exploration of the ...more

I made one mistake on calculating depth: Resolution uses feet, and Casino uses meters. Casino's copper deposit starts at 600 meters = 1,985 feet. Resolution's copper deposit starts at 3,300 feet below surface. Still, significance difference. Both Casino and Resolution have Copper and Moly. But Casino has gold, silver, etc., too, and gold and silver are found closer to surface. There's ...more

I completely understand E/S... My reasons for bringing up the matter has more to do with the perception by some that as far as Rio Tinto is concerned, it is an either/or situation between Resolution and Casino. I do not believe that's the case at all.

Agreed. There are a select few that will be greenlit. Both Casino and Resolution are on the list.
