Wireless H2S Monitoring Press Release

Obviously the open architecture of XST's technology will allow them to develop more applications within different sectors of the oil and gas industry. Drilling and production activities are going on throughout the world, and Calgary based companies are viewed as pioneers in the industry. This development should bode well for XS Technologies, now and in the long term. Go long......These 3000 units are just the start of a very BIG thing which will equate to long-term revenue growth. XS TECHNOLOGIES OPENS DOOR TO OIL & GAS INDUSTRY Calgary, AB (October 27, 2000) - XS Technologies (XST-CDNX) and Patch Safety Services Ltd. (HIF-CDNX) both of Calgary, Alberta have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to develop remote access wireless sensing equipment and systems to monitor oil and gas wells. Prototypes will include portable and fixed sensing equipment, wireless monitoring access, perpetual real-time monitoring services and corporate World Wide Web data access. Patch and XST are working to speed the deployment of these new wireless monitoring applications in Patch’s marketplaces throughout North America and internationally. Initial roll out is expected to commence during Q1 of 2001 with the potential to deliver up to 3000 units by year-end. The new products will allow real time wireless remote monitoring for common electronic gas monitoring equipment such as H2S sensors at sour gas wells and other facilities. The new systems will be used to monitor potential gas hazards in domestic and international oil and gas production. The systems will utilize XST’s high-speed wireless network access to deliver sensor data allowing early remote detection of any existing critical condition. Currently, most monitoring devices employed on-site emit audible and visual alarms only. These systems can be utilized at drilling operations, work-overs, oil and gas plant turnarounds, pipeline tie-ins, and offshore drilling platforms. The capabilities of this system will provide oil and gas companies and private residents with superior monitoring technology at price points lower than other wireless accessible products. It also allows companies an early response to any potentially hazardous developments at an oil or gas site. The new devices could also be used at any facility where remote wireless access to data for monitoring pressures, flows or levels would be cost and time beneficial. "These new wireless enabled products we are developing with XS Technologies mark the beginning of a new and very exciting era in the oil field safety industry,” stated Gerald Maetche, President and CEO of Patch. “The speed of delivery and enhanced safety applications available through this new alliance will maintain Patch’s leadership role in our industry and will set the standard for wireless safety services.” “The opportunity to grow our business to include the oil field safety industry has opened a huge market for us,” said John Way, President of XST. “We have been looking for a strong partner in the safety industry for some time, so this agreement with Patch, a leading and well respected H2S service company is a quantum leap in our ability to take our wireless monitoring and mobile tracking services to the large oil and gas market in North America.” Current industry estimates indicate 16,500 to 20,000 new wells to be drilled next year in western Canada alone with as many as 40% being sour wells. The potential for the rest of North America is larger with approximately three times as many rigs operating in the US and Mexico all faced with similar environmental concerns and rules. A large percentage of these wells will contain sour gas and require monitoring as well. The total potential market for these products and services exceeds $60 Million per year. About Patch Safety Services Ltd. Patch was incorporated in November 1989, and is a full service safety company. Patch specializes in deep critical sour wells and is a leading and well-respected H2S service company in Canada and internationally. About XS Technologies Inc. XS Technologies Inc., (www.mobiletrac.com) is a security and safety solutions provider and the proprietary designer of MobileTrac, a full-featured, open-architecture GPS tracking and safety product line. XST has tracking products and systems that are in use on every continent in the world.
