Irwin (Simple) Simon isn’t buying a

US MSO for the same reason no other Canadian cannabis lp has - it's illegal.
The smarter, more competent cannabis lp's have found ways to invest in the future if and when the US legalizes - but investing $200 million in Medmen isn't one of those. You HAVE seen that Tilray wrote off $100 million of that already, right and if Nedmen defaults obits notes - sSimon spent $200 miiillion and got NOTHiNG.
The SAFE Bank Act - passed if not - has nothing to do with legalization, Ventura - do you not research anything other than Cura and my 5 year old posts?

RE:Cash

Lol Last thing on TLRY...IS mind is buying an MSO. If you followed and read any of IS's comments, statements and the path forward, relationships south of 49, Medmen, you would know this.
US legalization is a long way off. 10 years and Safe Banking hasn't even passed.

M-Dog You lost me on your elementary post.  If this, If that... If mygogcashe didn't change his name, maybe he would have some credibility but, that's only IF.  Cheers, V

Ventura he's trying to bury the page where you absolutely exposed it.  No one here takes it seriously. It's almost impossible for it to get a response from Dave and Quinn when he's absolutely bored occasionally. You and I Ventura can't help ourselves it's too entertaining.

Don't forget that the next in line Canadian LP to Tilray, Canopy Growth has done a lot of groundwork and inked a deal with Acreage Holdings for doing business as a US MSO. The US marketplace is viable while the Canadian marketplace has been a dud, mostly because Canada launched and strangled  the pot biz with a whole bunch of ways out for government to restrain freemarket flow by ...more

I mostly like your post but I couldn't disagree more with your closing comments.  The "old school way" of greasing palms has to be avoided at all cost.  The cannabis industry does not need a scandal to break out about some company paying off some politician or policy maker in order to move things along.  This will only play into the hands of the Anti-Cannabis / Regan ...more

I was really thinking of the greasing palms comment as making a political contribution to the party or pro-pot people, just like beverage alcohol does. And Big Pharma, Big Tobacco and pretty much every other financially positive business or elites with money, like the Kochs, Buffets, Syros or others who want to buy some friends that may or may not be able to further their interests in their ...more

Funding pro-cannabis movements / supporters is likely the most "above-board" thing any of these companies can do, are they?  I have no idea.  I would like to think they are supporting their cause in one way or another, either through direct funding or attending and speaking on behalf of these groups at conferences etc. In terms of the political front.  Regardless which ...more

Company builders like them to stand on their own two feet .  If they aren't making profits, it's hard for them to contribute to a lobbying account. Big Alcohol is a political party contributor and they are the ones that need to lead the way because consumer's switching to cannabinoids is going to cause them to invest to protect marketshare, which is what it is all about! Tilray Brands is not just pot, they are alchole as well.  Beer, Whiskey, etc, they just added 8 new breweries
Comment by geodcan on Aug 25, 2023 5:05pm
Tilray chasing down breweries and alcohol makes sense given that the margins are too low for pot products. If they "fix" the laws for cannabinoids to thrive, those beer lines will easily be converted to cannabinoids with a little licensing and tweaks but in the meantime, they generate revenue to keep Tilray viable. They seem to be emulating what Constellation Brands is doing only with ...more

I did some research into margins on Alchole sales.  Average Gross Margin is apx 53% for the sector (alchole) Here is what I seen from Tilray's QTR report - Gross Margin on Cannabis Sales 63% - Gross Margin on Alchole Sales 51%  (on par +/- with alchole sector average) So despite what other Cannabis producers are doing for Gross Margin on Cannabis, Tilray is beating the average ...more

Geo, What's going to fix these laws you speak of below? Farm Bill 2023? That is the fight right now. New language there could change everything, including the frame work for legalization.CBD, CBG, CBN, THCV, hemp flower, rare cannabinoids, Delta-8/9 THC, HHC, and the like  Cheers, V "If they  the laws for cannabinoids to thrive, those beer lines will easily be ...more

All of the derivative cannabinoids are graying up the legal scene of what is legal and what is not.  Now they are finding out that some of the cbd's are more fun than legal!  Loopholes to try to get an edge. As far as Tilray moving towards alcohol, it is a no-brainer because alcohol doesn't have the stigma that drugs do and there are profits to be made, plus they are already ...more
