Charlie,

Once the shares are out on the open market you are trading them back and forth with other investors and traders, the company doesn't get one cent of the money that goes back and forth on the stock exchange each day.

When you sell short you are borrowing shares from a broker and you place yourself under contract to buy replacement shares from an investor who is willing to sell them.  If no one is willing to sell their shares at a price you are looking to pay them you either need to wait or increase your bid but regardless you're under contract to buy those replacement shares

Big Pros use short positions because they have millions (sometimes billions) of dollars on hand that allows them to buy back (cover) with ease.

I've never sold short but if I did I would always be sure to have cash on hand to cover every one of those shares at the book value number and/or the 52 week high number (minimum).

IMHO you were mislead by the low shareprice but I would SINCERELY advise you to dig into the last 4 QTR reports to review revenue growth and EPS progress, debt repayment is notable too, be sure to take notes as you go.

I tend to print off the actual reports and attack them with highlighters so I don't miss anything, try that if you get overwhelmed, it should help a little.

Best Regards

The only time I have pumped a stock is when I wanted the sp to go up, and to my surprise it seemed to work a couple of times.  But what goes up by pumping and hype always comes down.   You seem to be doing it just for the sake of doing it, like an unpaid promoter.  Why do you continually pump and defend this stock?  Do you think it will make a difference in the end?

Tilray is a poorly run company at this moment that has totally destroyed shareholder value. His foray into alcohol and buying assets that aren't contributing to the bottom line is stinging at this moment. Luckily the surgeon general wanting to add a cancer warning to alcohol could help Tilray if they develop cannabis infused non alcohol beer. Could be a winners but that's a while away imo
