The non-stop flow of uber-bullish #Uranium & #Nuclear #energy news continued last week with more reactor life extensions, restarts & plans for new builds, plus supply disruptions & more amidst an accelerating #AI-driven Nuclear Resurgence. Here's a recap:

Mexico's state-owned Nuclear utility CFE appears to be the first major casualty of the US/Russian enriched Uranium (EUP) import/export bans. Russia's Tenex has declared force majeure to cancel CFE's EUP shipment from Russia to the US for fabrication into reactor fuel for a March 2025 fuel loading at Mexico's Laguna Verde Nuclear plant. CFE is now scrambling to secure replacement EUP for fabrication ASAP. energyintel.com/00000193-c0b7-

Japan's 820MW Shimane-2 Nuclear reactor was restarted to begin producing 24/7 carbon-free electricity for the first time since it was shutdown over 12 years ago. Japan now has 14 operating reactors(13.25GW) consuming Uranium fuel japantimes.co.jp/news/2024/12/0

Last year 5.5% of Japan's electricity came from Nuclear power but now the nation's new amended Energy Policy plans a near 4-fold increase to a target of 20% Nuclear by 2040, reversing the previous plan to reduce Nuclear capacity in Japan's energy mix. nucnet.org/news/new-energ

Swiss utility Axpo announced plans to invest a further US$400 million to enable its two Westinghouse reactors at the Beznau Nuclear power plant to operate until 2033. world-nuclear-news.org/articles/bezna

The bipartisan US Commission on Nuclear Energy & American Leadership has issued 21 specific recommendations to the incoming Trump administration, "aimed at restoring the United States to the global leadership we once enjoyed." The recommendations include "The Secretary of Energy should fully implement the Nuclear Fuel Security Act and act urgently to ensure that the United States will no longer be dependent on foreign state-owned minerals and materials for critical elements of the nuclear fuel cycle, including through the construction of a domestic uranium enrichment facility able to support both commercial and US national security requirements." councilonstrategicrisks.org/2024/12/10/nuc

The US EIA released its Q3/2024 Domestic Uranium Production Reportconfirming that "US Nuclear reactors rely heavily on uranium imports, as domestic production of the material is virtually non-existent." The US reactor fleet consumes nearly 13 Million lbs U3O8 equiv every quarter, yet in Q3 the US produced just 121,296 lbs, less than 1% of its fuel requirements. eia.gov/uranium/produc

In 2023 the US imported 95.4% of the Uranium consumed by world's largest Nuclear fleet, with 25.5% shipped in from Canada. Canada hA made clear that it's willing to levy taxes on US U3O8 exports in response to Trump's tariff threat. bnnbloomberg.ca/investing/comm

Scott Nolan, Aerospace engineer & founding investor in Elon Musk's SpaceX, has launched a new startup company 'General Matter' to produce low-cost US-made high-assay low-enriched Uranium (HALEU) advanced Nuclear reactor fuel to help end Russia's monopoly. San Francisco's General Matter is 1 of 4 companies awarded contracts to produce enriched Uranium for US Dept of Energy's $2.7 Billion HALEU procurement program. Scott expects Nuclear energy will be an important part of Trump's efforts to expand US baseload power. reuters.com/technology/spa

The US Dept of Energy has selected 6 companies to supply $3.4 Billion in American-made Low Enriched Uranium (LEU) through contracts intended to boost US domestic production of reactor fuel made from US & allied mined uranium. "Through these contracts, DOE will acquire Low-enriched Uranium generated by new domestic sources—either at entirely new facilities or from projects that expand existing capacity. All contracts will last for up to 10 years & each awardee receives a minimum $2M contract." energy.gov/ne/articles/bi
Sprott Physical Uranium Trust announced that 2 more brokers (Canaccord Genuity & BMO Nesbitt Burns) have been added as sales agents for their US$1 Billion 'At-the-Market'(ATM) program used to raise cash to fund additional Spot U3O8 purchases. Under the terms of the amended ATM sales agreement, there are now 4 sales agents (Cantor Fitzgerald, Virtu, Canaccord & BMO) that can be authorized to issue new SPUT shares for cash whenever SPUT's managers notify them as to the number of shares they can issue at a minimum share price that is NOT less than the most recently calculated NAV per trust unit, thereby ensuring no dilution of SPUT's NAV. US$689,379,161 of the $1 Billion ATM is still available to be issued to raise cash for more physical U3O8 stacking. x.com/quakes99/statu

US Westinghouse is building out its Canadian Nuclear footprint as it eyes Canada's expansive newbuild market that could potentially see sales of Westinghouse's entire reactor portfolio: the large AP1000, the AP300 small modular reactor (SMR) and the eVinci microreactor. Westinghouse is expanding its Canada-based supply chain and lining up Canadian export credit agency (ECA) funding from Ottawa to backstop the Canadian supply chain in the three-unit AP1000 plant Westinghouse hopes to supply Poland. These steps may help Westinghouse further identify as Canadian— like both of its owners — as it pitches itself to the nascent large nuclear newbuild programs. energyintel.com/00000193-bd1f-

The US Nuclear Regulatory Commission has published a paper on how small modular reactors built at a factory might get their Nuclear fuel and undergo limited testing there before being shipped to the final power plant for installation. x.com/NRCgov/status/
