China added 31 gigawatts in the first half of this year—more than double the new capacity installed during the same period last year. The government’s push for distributed solar has driven a boom in rooftop panel installations everywhere from hospitals and schools to commercial buildings. Such distributed solar accounted for nearly two-thirds of new capacity additions in the first half this year.
