EU EV battery regulations

EU Battery Recycling Regulations:
Furthermore, as of 1 July 2024, rechargeable industrial and electric vehicles batteries with internal storage placed on the Union market will have to have a carbon footprint declaration. From 1 January 2026, those batteries will have to bear a carbon intensity performance class label and from 1 July 2027, they shall comply with maximum carbon footprint thresholds.
As of 1 January 2027, industrial and electric-vehicle batteries with internal storage will have to declare the content of recycled cobalt, lead, lithium and nickel contained therein. From 1 January 2030, these batteries will have to contain minimum levels of recycled content (12% cobalt; 85% lead, 4% lithium and 4% nickel). From 1 January 2035, these levels would be further increased (20% cobalt, 10% lithium and 12% nickel).
Regarding performance and durability, the proposal includes the development of minimum requirements for both portable batteries of general use (rechargeable and not rechargeable) by 1 January 2026, as well as for rechargeable industrial batteries.
The United States and EU generally diverge on policies for emerging technologies, with the EU taking a more precautionary approach involving consumers and the United States exercising a post-hoc regulatory approach. One reason for this divergence is that the EU has a relatively decentralized political system compared to the United States’ federal system.144 This results in a more politically insulated process in the United States that tends to be slower in enacting policies and less responsive to consumer sentiments.

This regulations will soon to be adapted throughout the country. Right now individual states have adapted their own requirements.

This is why AMY will be so valuable to battery makers and especially to startups like Italvolt who need to build up a surplus supply of recycled battery material to meet the regulations.

These are just the basic regulations the cost savings to recycle VS mine and process will drive this forward. This could save a large auto manufacturer billions per year.AMY is a leader in this new tech long term this will be huge.

You are correct. Recyclers like Li-cycle say they may get up to 95% recycled, but show nothing to back it up. They want the old batteries brought to their facility.   If you are running a large  gigafactory you do not wanbt your expensive material going off site any where.  You need to do it like Italvolt is proposing with AMY, put the recycling faciity right inside their huge ...more
