More than 90% of Saskatchewan’s heavy oil sites

don’t measure pollution: scientist.
"More than 90 per cent of heavy oil sites in Saskatchewan are not required to measure how much pollution they’re generating, according to a senior research analyst who extensively studied the province’s fossil fuel industry.

Instead, the province allows the vast majority of these sites, many of which are clustered around Lloydminster, to report an estimate — essentially an educated guess — as to how much powerful, heat-trapping methane gas they’re responsible for emitting."

Unless there were to be significant cost savings then why would they bother implimenting CTI? They don't care about GHG's it appears.

Sad very sad but one way or the other this will change. Right now I will assume that regardless of the pollution the penalties and fines under the carbon cap and trade system are far less in paying  and incurring by continuing to go about as they are. Having said this and if what you are stating is the case the Feds need to come more heavy on these businesses and not accept guesstimate but ...more

I'm looking to buy more shares but with the shortage of power in Alberta coupled with this recent article about lack of monitoring I want to see what others think about the future of CTI. No ulterior motives here.

Fair enough. Well it is a gamble Sask. The more certain things become the more you will end up paying. The price of shares are where they are because of all the things that need to be proven. Here is my mindset not saying you or anyone need to follow it...if I strongly believe in something regardless of whether it is very risky and a huge gamble I will add and why I have done so. I will put it to ...more

Be careful with this : " they had the responsibility to tell us it isn't viable yet through the continuous heating cycle no steam or solvents etc they had said things are as expected." I learned an expensive lesson with a company that was exploring oilsands East of Ft. Mac, in Saskatchewan. All was looking favourable until it was discovered that they had used the incorrect type ...more

With RML the situation is different, the information is coming via the courts, not from the company.

Thats very true the issue however is the corts can no way deny anyone with a legitimate claim. The issue as people keep raising is the "pecking order" the only sustainable way are 1) companies get paid lesser amounts as the total assessed worth is 10 to 13 billion but as i said you have 19 and growing companies putting forth their grievances and if the value is more than 526,000,000 plus ...more

When I heard of CTI years ago my first thoughts were the potential for application where there is insufficient caprock in the structure for SAGD to be utilized. I still see that  potential, however, I'm starting to worry about the possible power shortages we will be facing in the future.
Comment by ScarletSpider on Sep 06, 2023 4:50pm
I am not too sure what you mean power shortages? If you mean alternative energy not being used or what exactly i am confused. Assuming you are speaking oil and gas will be more heavily used and that the conservatives get in the way i fully agree with what Jefferey said that even if companies use fossil fuels cti is still better than the standard by 0 solvents 0 steam. Now if you are concerned ...more

These power outages: "The Alberta Electric System Operator (AESO) is reminding Albertans to limit their power consumption today due to potential grid instability, especially during the peak hours of 4pm to 7pm when demand is high and wind is expected to be very low."

Hmmm ok. That is definitely not good quite inconvenient to people having to go through that. They may wish to have a generator although i dont know how that works if they feed off grid or what. Having said this how does this have anything to do with axe? Now lets say the grid is fueled by  oil and gas powered steam vs coal and axe is part of the process grid outages will remain regardless ...more

I see this as a non-issue. If we need more power to stay warm and keep the lights on, etc., they will fire up NG plants again. Look at Germany. They needed more power/energy due to the war and they fired up coal plants again. https://www.npr.org/2022/09/27/1124448463/germany-coal-energy-crisis Also, isn't AXE an advantage because CTI or RF heating is low voltage to begin with to produce ...more

Actually there is a net 0 in place by 2050 and that the co2 levels must come down by 40 to 50 percent of 2005 levels by 2030 so while Saskatchewan and whoever is doing what they are this legislation that came out in 2021 is enshrined as I said the legislation will be. The oil and gas companies will go down swinging and try to get away with as much as they can up to 2030 I am not surprised that ...more
