Q-Sphera

July 21, 2020 Midatech announced a collaboration with a major pharma. It was undisclosed in the news release but was Janssen as later revealed. The stock briefly jumped from $6.50 within days of the announcement to $21.50 within days after the announcement and then faded. The collaboration is now 2 1/2 years old and was expanded to another large molecule this year nearly two years after the deal was announced potentially corroborating progress to this year. According to Midatech's CEO the technology reached a Watson and Crick moment on June 21, 2021 about one year after the collaboration was announced.

"On 17 June 2021 the Company announced that, using its Q-Sphera technology, it had successfully encapsulated a proprietary Janssen experimental large molecule medicine and importantly preserved its functional integrity. The Company believes no other commercial or academic organisation has been able to successfully deliver any such experimental medicine over extended periods using methods capable of commercial scaling." "No other company or acedemic institution has been able to do what we've done. We could have the world's first long acting injectable protein. Let me just say that it is not often that small companies like ours make these kinds of scientific leaps. This really is our Watson and Crick moment." Stephen Stamp CEO Midatech June 17, 2021; presentation video

"The Company believes these results could potentially open up very significant opportunities for its Q-Sphera technology. A significant number of latest generation medicines are protein based and reformulation as long-acting injectables could provide significant benefits to patients, physicians and payors. In 2020, the top 10 mAbs recorded aggregate sales of US$74.9 billion1 and all mAbs US$154 billion1 globally." June 17, 2021

Both Q-Sphere and xB3 can be used with already approved drugs limiting clinical trial risk. xB3 involves delivering the drug more in the brain and xB3 itself also has significant clinical risks. Q-Sphera may be more of a formulation problem and may therefore be less risky in the clinic. Biodex's CEO was hoping for a licening deal to support the financing but he said he hasn't been able to deliver in time. Knowing Midatech was out of cash and between at risk of the dilution we've seen it wasn't in the strongest bargaining position either and Janssen knew it and may have been trying to leverage a deal. All cashed up and stronger than ever with BTI Midatech's CEO i

"Following expansion of the R&D collaboration agreement with Janssen for encapsulation of its experimental monoclonal antibody, the company is working on developing methods for encapsulation of bispecific T cell engager molecules and antibody-drug conjugates, both of which have shown utility in oncology and present considerable market opportunity." Midatech Pharma PLC Announces R&D Collaboration with Janssen on Second Molecule

MTP

ABINGDON, UK / ACCESSWIRE / March 9, 2022 / Midatech Pharma PLC (AIM:MTPH)(NASDAQ:MTP), a drug delivery technology company focused on improving the bio-delivery and biodistribution of medicines, is pleased to announce an extension of its existing R&D collaboration with Janssen Pharmaceutica NV (Janssen) originally announced on 21 July 2020.

On 17 June 2021 the Company announced that, using its Q-Sphera technology, it had successfully encapsulated a proprietary Janssen experimental large molecule medicine and importantly preserved its functional integrity. The Company believes no other commercial or academic organisation has been able to successfully deliver any such experimental medicine over extended periods using methods capable of commercial scaling.

Following the initial programme (MTX213), the collaboration has been extended to include another large molecule to the research performed by Midatech for Janssen. As with the MTX213 molecule, the work will concentrate on maximizing drug loading and optimizing in vitro duration of release for this undisclosed Janssen experimental molecule using the Midatech's Q-Sphera technology.

Dmitry Zamoryakhin, Chief Scientific Officer of Midatech, said:

"We look forward to working with Janssen and the application of our technology specific to this new API."
