The Globe and Mail is reporting that Taykwa Tagamou Nation, a northeastern Ontario Indigenous community near Cochrane, is investing $20 million to buy into Canada Nickel, a would-be mine developer with a district-scale project north of Timmins.

The newspaper cites two unnamed sources. Canada Nickel and Taykwa Tagamou Nation (TTN) reportedly declined comment.

According to the Globe, TTN’s investment is to buy convertible notes in the Toronto-based nickel company that are convertible to common shares. If converted, TTN would have an 8.3 per cent equity stake in the company. The First Nation would also secure a seat on the company’s board of directors.

Official word of this transaction will be announced Monday.

Canada Nickel’s main Crawford project is a low-grade, bulk tonnage nickel deposit, 40 kilometres north of Timmins.  The company anticipates the start of construction in 2026 with first production by the end of 2027. The expected mine life is 41 years. If it comes to fruition, Canada Nickel said Crawford would be the third largest nickel sulphide project in the world.

Wow that is massive,  having indigenous people investing 20 million and supporting this project. This will definitely move things at a much faster pace. Mark as outdone himself again and again. This just keeps getting bigger and better. I'm sure 94 cents will be in the rear view mirror and never be seen again..Is it Monday yet??

$20 million for 8.3% of Canada Nickel.  That is highly dilutive.

Js.....it is their land Cnc is sitting on. Just my opinion.

I'm a white Canadian, I was born here and it's no more their land than it is mine. Stop the weak pandering that creates a feeling of divisivness or we can say it's good to see them spending the 10 billion dollars in free RHT money given by my ancestors hard work in taxes and debt us Canadians will have to pay for year after year so they can use our roads for free, Healthcare for free ...more

Cornholed.....I am talking faster permitting  process, environmental objections, co-operation, possible blockages  , etc. Ring of fire is an example of a slow moving potential mines.

It's terrific news, im just not going to jump on the pander wagon of false entitlement to land. However being that natives are the biggest road block to mining development in canada not because of "environmental issues" but because they want their piece of the pie I'm glad they got it for basically free at that price and now they can stop leaching off us and let this get done.
